The Toronto Maple Leafs need to make a splash at the NHL Trade Deadline this year. Whether or not it'll happen, is a different story.
Being a Toronto Maple Leafs fan over the past decade has been a wild ride. From Game 7 collapses to Auston Matthews chasing 70 goals, there has always been a storyline with this team.
However, when it comes to the 2024-25 season, what is that storyline? Depending on the day, the Leafs are leading the Atlantic Division and there hasn't really been much bad to talk about.
Matthews has seemingly been battling an injury, forcing him to fall short of his traditional goal-pace, but he's still scoring at a 40-goal clip, which would lead most teams in the league.
3 Players Toronto Maple Leafs Should Trade at NHL Trade Deadline
In my opinion, the biggest storyline that's facing this team is the NHL Trade Deadline and how risky they will be. GM Brad Treliving has been known for his low-risk over the years, so it would be shocking if he changes that mantra. However, until the deadline passes, I'm going to hope that they will make a splash and improve this roster.
You only get so tries at winning a championship and you need to go "all-in" when you're close, even if you lose. Remember those fun Toronto Blue Jays team's from the mid-2010s? They had a core, went all-in, and although they lost, we all remember those special moments. It may have cost the team in the future, but adding guys like David Price and Troy Tulowitzki are crucial when you're trying to win in professional sports.
So as the Leafs get ready for another playoff push, here are three players they need to move on from, in order to compete for a Stanley Cup.
