The Toronto Maple Leafs top prospect, Easton Cowan, has been selected to the 2025 Team Canada World Junior camp. The 19 year old right winger has been lighting up the OHL since his return to the London Knights on October 9th.
In 18 OHL games this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs top prospect has scored 14 goals and added 11 assists, averaging 1.38 PPG. He has also extended his point streak to over 365 days. Cowan last played on November 23rd against the Saginaw Spirit and missed the next four games due to injury.
There is no timeline for Cowan's return, but London is set to face off against the Oshawa Generals on Friday, December 6th. The Generals are the team they beat in the OHL finals last season. Depending on his injury, I think he and the Knights would want him to play in this game.
However, if the injury was serious, he would not have been selected to the 2025 Canada World Junior camp. (stats hockeydb.com).
Toronto Maple Leafs Top Prospect selected to Canada World Junior Camp
If Cowan makes the team - which is very likely - it will be his second year in a row representing Team Canada at the World Junior's. At last year's tournament, he registered 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) in 5 games played.
Although that may not be the production you expect from Cowan on the scoresheet, he contributed in many other ways in the 2024 tournament.
His ability to create space for himself and his teammates is one that was on full display in 2024 and he has only gotten stronger over the calendar year. Expect Cowan to play an important role in Team Canada's success in this year's tournament. He will be must watch TV for all Maple Leafs fans and Canadian hockey fans come Boxing Day when the tournament officially begins.
Cowan is an exciting young player who Toronto Maple Leafs fans hope will continue his elite production when he makes the jump to NHL or AHL next season. For Team Canada's full roster, click the link here.
