The biggest story right now concerning the Toronto Maple Leafs is their quest to win the Atlantic Division for the first time ever.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have won the Canadian Division, and they once won the North-East division in 1999, the year after the Coen Brothers changed the world with their cinematic masterpiece the Big Lebowski, which is, to my mind, the greatest movie ever made.
Should they do well in their remaining seven games (Columbus, Florida, Tampa, Montreal, Carolina, Buffalo, Detroit) the Leafs could very well add the Atlantic Division feather to their championship hat.
And should they do so, they will greatly increase their odds of winning the Stanley Cup.
Toronto Maple Leafs news and injury updates for the stretch run
The Leafs have been very fortunate when it comes to injuries this season. Despite Auston Matthews missing a bunch of games and seemingly battling a pesky injury all year long, he's still managed to look like himself lately and appears on track for playoff success.
Other than Matthews, Anthony Stolarz had a long injury between early December and the 4 Nations Face-Off, but no other main players have been hurt for long periods of time.
Only Morgan Rielly and William Nylander have played every game, but of the Leafs regulars, only Kampf has failed to play 60 games and he's played 59.
Currently, Max Pacioretty is injured, though he's been practicing. He hasn't played since February 8th, and he was unplayable when he was playing except for back in October where he came out of the gate on fire. Pacioretty should not be used by the Leafs who should have Nick Robertson, Pontus Holmberg and Alex Steeves ahead of him.
Jani Hakanpaa remains injured, but like Pacioretty, who cares? He's played twice all season and even if he was healthy he'd be like the 5th best defenseman on the Marlies. His signing was bizarre and ill-advised,
The only actually injuries that the Toronto Maple Leafs have are ones that occurred in their last game. David Kampf is day-to-day with whatever is wrong with him, and Jake McCabe's injury status and timelines is equally vague.
I would expect that neither of those guys will be out for long, and that they are both sitting tonight out of precaution. Obviously, this could blow up in their face at any time, but as of right now, the Toronto Maple Leafs have, more or less, the healthiest roster in the NHL as the playoffs approach.
