For the second time this season the Toronto Maple Leafs are taking on their former coach Sheldon Keefe and his New Jersey Devils.
The Toronto Maple Leafs head back into New Jersey after skating to their first victory of the season back on October 10 by a score of 4-2.
Keefe found his Devils behind the eight ball early in the game when the Maple Leafs jumped out with three goals in the first 15-minutes of the game thanks to tallies by Max Pacioretty, Bobby McMann and Steven Lorentz, while fans got a taste of the "Hildebeast" with Dennis Hildeby turning away 21 of 23 shots for his first NHL victory.
Tuesday's contest may see the return of Max Domi to the line-up as he skated with the team on Monday and Claire Hanna reported he would be a game-time decision. Anthony Stolarz will be getting the start against the Devils for his 16th start of the season, which would put him just eight behind his career high. The towering goalie has a .500 winning record over his last eight games (4-3-1), however, he is posting a .931 save percentage and 2.01 GAA over that span.
Max Domi return sends Grebenkin to AHL
It is unclear where Domi will slot in if he returns the line-up, but with the lack of depth scoring on the roster, it may be best to see if a reunion with Auston Matthews will help balance out the roster and can allow each of the big three (Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander) to play on separate lines.
The club sent Nikita Grebenkin to the Marlies today, as he is waiver exempt and can be returned to the Toronto Marlies with no risk of losing him.
Jake McCabe who skated with the team on Monday will be held out for his fifth straight game as Jonas Siegel reported that he remains day-to-day. This likely means that we will continue to see Philippe Myers in the line-up skating beside Morgan Rielly and unfortunately the pair looks like one of the weakest top four tandems in the league. Rielly has had a noticeable regression this year while playing in year three of an eight year deal. The veteran defenseman has had struggled with leading plays and has delayed timing when creating offence.
Myers has struggled in his role and is displaying why he has been a fringe NHL player, as receiving favorable role he is losing his minutes.
Game time is 7PM EST and can be seen on TSN4 or Sportsnet+.
