The Leafs Should Finally Trade for a Center

Over the course of the season, one of the main needs for the Maple Leafs that had been stressed many times is that they need more center depth.

With both Matthews and now Tavares taking their turns on the IR, that need has become more and more apparent,if it wasn’t already, as each day goes by. That is because the drop off in production was quite drastic, no matter who ended up being tasked with filling the void.

As a result, the Leafs shouldn’t wait any longer as this would be the perfect time to finally make the much-needed addition for the team. Not only would it instantly help the club now such that they don’t need to search for any more makeshift solutions while Tavares is out, but it would also give the acquired player ample time to build up chemistry with the squad and learn the entire Leafs system in preparation for the playoffs. With a win-win scenario like that, it is an opportunity right now that the Leafs should not pass up. Whether it be a reunion with Ryan O’Reilly as suggested by our very own Jeremy Ridgewell, or even a superstar like Sidney Crosby, they would no doubt be an impactful difference maker for Toronto down the stretch.

The key now though will be to explore ways to fit the potential candidate under their salary cap and finding the right team to do the deal with. Nevertheless, getting it done sooner rather than later will be vital for the. Leafs success right now and down the stretch run.
