The Toronto Maple Leafs brought in multiple new players this offseason. It is understandable, as they had a disappointing 2025-26 season and were in need of a shakeup.
Due to this, the Maple Leafs are going to be a very intriguing team to watch this season. They will be hoping that their newcomers will make a positive impact.
When looking at the Maple Leafs' new players, there are a few who have the potential to be nice surprises. Let's take a look at three specific ones now.
Jack Roslovic
With the Maple Leafs needing more skill and secondary scoring, it makes sense that they signed Jack Roslovic to a two-year, $8 million contract this summer. The 29-year-old forward just had a very solid season for the Edmonton Oilers, as he scored 21 goals and recorded 36 points in 69 games. This was after he posted 22 goals and 39 points in 81 games for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2024-25.
With numbers like these, Roslovic should provide Toronto with solid depth scoring. Yet, the possibility of him taking another step forward with the Maple Leafs should not be ruled out. He previously played with Auston Matthews while with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. This past chemistry could very well help Roslovic take his offensive game to a new level, so he could become a steal.
Nick Paul
The Maple Leafs made a notable trade earlier this offseason when they acquired forward Nick Paul from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for goalie Dennis Hildeby, a 2027 fourth-round pick, and a 2028 third-round pick. While the Maple Leafs gave up a promising goalie in Hildeby and two draft picks, this trade could end up being a steal for them.
Yes, Paul had a down year in 2025-26 with the Lightning, as he posted seven goals and 15 points in 51 games. However, when looking at his resume, he has the potential to bounce back. In 2024-25 with the Lightning, he posted 22 goals and 41 points in 76 games. He also had 24 goals and 46 points in 82 games for Tampa in 2023-24. If he gets back to these offensive numbers and plays a strong two-way game, he could end up being a big pickup for Toronto.
Emil Andrae
Emil Andrae is another player who has the potential to be a nice addition for the Maple Leafs. While he struggled to break out with the Philadelphia Flyers, he has the potential to change that after getting a fresh start in Toronto.
Andrae appeared in 61 games last season for the Flyers, where he posted two goals, 13 points, and a plus-15 rating. Overall, he took a nice step in the right direction with his development, but the 24-year-old still has the potential to improve his game further. If he does, the Maple Leafs' decision to trade for him will look great.
