Toronto Maple Leafs fans are known for many things. One of them is their intense passion for their favourite team. The ways they show their love for the organization can sometimes manifest in wonderful ways. Other times, things can get weird and outrageous.

It’s always exciting to cheer on the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it’s easy to get swept up in that excitement.

Fandom is built this way and the Buds have some of the most passionate fans in the NHL. That’s why it’s not shocking to learn that the fans have spent time and money tracking down some truly unique items. Some take their enthusiasm to a whole new level by purchasing the oddest and most unique Toronto Maple Leafs items imaginable.

For those looking to expand their collection, here’s what you may be missing.

Game Used Toronto Maple Leafs Toilet

At the very top of the list of oddest fan purchases needs to be the memento out of Maple Leaf Garden. A fan decided he needed something to remember the arena by and chose a toilet.

The historic arena, which once housed the team, was demolished in 1999, but its memory lives on in the hearts of Maple Leafs faithful. The arena’s seats were sold off when it closed, but one of those seats was hotter than the rest.

Jim Vigmond, of Barrie, ON., a lawyer and Maple Leafs fan, paid $5300 to buy one of the toilets out of the Maple Leafs dressing room. He was willing to pay as much as $10,000 for the prized possession but managed to flush his competition at auction.

Toronto Maple Leafs Urn

Losing a loved one is never easy and there just isn’t a good way to say goodbye. The folks at Mainely Urns and Memorials have done their best to change that for die hard Maple Leafs fans.

Mainely Urns and Memorials, whose mission statement is, “Our mission is and has always been to provide the easiest and most economical way for families to buy cremation urns (burial urns and pet cremation urns) on the web,” recognized that there was an entire market missing on bringing Maple Leafs fandom to the afterlife.

It’s unclear what the demand is like, but the company wanted to solve a problem that must have existed for decades, how to show that the deceased loved the Maple Leafs. Mainley Urns and Memorials, which began its virtual operations in 2003, had the solution. They began and continue to sell an add-on for their urns.

For less than $35, fans and grieving friends/family can purchase a Toronto Maple Leafs Aluminum Embossed Hockey Logo Emblem for their urn. Enhancing the final resting place of a loved one may be just what they always wanted. If the occupant is a former Habs fan, the upgraded urn can also be the most emphatic way of their Leafs fan keeper getting the final say in an age old rivalry.

Some may worry that this aluminum embossed Leafs logo originates from an unofficial source. Well, fear not. According to Mainley Urns and Memorials’ website, the embossed emblems are officially licensed and printed in the Leafs colors.

It’s hard to admit, but it does look very nice.

Toronto Maple Leafs Voodoo Dolls

Haven’t the Toronto Maple Leafs had it hard enough. Do we really need to add another layer of difficulty in their Stanley Cup pursuits? This after all is a team that has had multiple curses placed on it.

The last thing the Leafs need are voodoo dolls to further impede their progress. Unfortunately, no one asked the organization and these dolls have been made and can even be purchased.

Fans often resort to various rituals, charms, and superstitions to influence the outcome of their favorite team’s games. These rituals can range from wearing lucky jerseys to consuming certain foods before a game. The idea of voodoo dolls could be seen as an extension of these practices.

Hockey fans and Leafs haters may poke pins into the crudely sewn Maple Leafs-themed dolls in jest. They may have believed that it could somehow transfer their frustrations onto the team’s on-ice performance. This is, of course, a playful and symbolic act rather than a genuine belief in voodoo magic, at least one would hope that this is all just playful fun.

The existence of Maple Leafs voodoo dolls is more of a humorous and imaginative aspect of sports fandom. It illustrates the lengths to which fans would go to show their passion and dedication to their team. While most products on this list are perfect for Leafs fans, this one is for their detractors.

In 2013, Madame Gypsy’s Voodoo Dolls took things a step too far when they began selling Maple Leafs voodoo dolls for the low price of $7 each. While the dolls may not have any mystical powers, they may help fans of other franchises feel comfort when they watched their favourite team play against the Buds.

There may not be anything more terrifying and ridiculous as these voodoo dolls.

Busts of Former Toronto Maple Leafs Made From Toothpaste

Some fans may believe that their collection of memorabilia is complete, but is it really without a miniature bust of your favourite player?

An artist decided that the 1971-72 NHL season needed to be captured in a fun and unique way. Perhaps, the epiphany came while brushing their teeth. The artist decided the best way to do it was to create something never been done before. What made these busts truly one of a kind was that it was believed that they were constructed out of Colgate toothpaste.

Those busts included a smiling Norm Ullman. This is a player who centered a line of Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay for the Detroit Red Wings before being traded along with Paul Henderson and Floyd Smith to the Leafs. Perhaps, it’s no accident that Henderson has also been immortalized in toothpaste as well.

Going the other way in the deal was the Big M, Frank Mahovlich. And, you guessed it, there’s a Colgate bust of him as well. This artist, or perhaps it was multiple sculptors since it is unclear who created this unique art, has also made Leafs goaltending legend Jaques Plante.

These players were included as part of a set of hockey busts from 1971-72. They are only one and a quarter inches high with a base that’s smaller than an inch. It was believed that these busts were actually made out of toothpaste, but the truth is that they were made of plastic.

These busts were part of a promotion, where those who bought Colgate toothpaste tubes in the winter of 1972 got to also take home the tiny head of a hockey hero. There was an error in series, where some of the Ullman busts had a spelling error. His name was written with two ‘N’s on the end.

This minty fresh series may not have been made from toothpaste but it does remain very unique set of art.

Toronto Maple Leafs Mr. Potato Head

It’s not surprising that there is a Maple Leafs banded toy available on the market.

There are many and the sport of hockey is often marketed to children because groups like the NHL recognize that the fandom of youngsters is necessary for the life and longevity of their product. What is surprising is one toy that made it to market.

Sports Spuds put together a special release of a Maple Leafs Mr. Potato Head. Finally, kids were able to do what they had always dreamed. They were able to swap out the face and parts from their hockey playing potato.

This toy came with removable and replaceable arms, an additional hockey stick, a helmet, skates, and even a mouth, complete with a missing tooth. It was a nice touch by the creators. The children who sit to play with the toy had the option on deciding whether their spud was playing a game with stick in hand or was out for the evening with their potato date, wearing their false teeth.

The original Mr. Potato Head was invented by George Lerner, an artist, graphic designer, and model maker.

He came up with and designed the original concept for the toy. Three years later, in 1952 Hasbro began distributing the ready for market toy.

Mr. Potato Head has taken on other partners since then such as Playskool, but was never officially sold by Sports Spuds. It does bring into question whether the Toronto Maple Leafs or NHL had any knowledge or provided the rights to Sports Spuds for their version of the toy.

Toronto Maple Leafs Pinball Machine

Some fans are craftier than others. This was proven in 2017 when it was revealed that a very creative and talented Leafs fan put together a truly unique Maple Leafs experience. He made a way for fans to play the Leafs in a whole new fashion, through pinball.

Leafs pinball machine was created, complete with gorgeous casing and a light up scoreboard. An artistic rendering of Johnny Bower sprawled out making save adorns the machine’s back glass. Bower is surrounded by displays, allowing the pinball player to follow along with their score and progress.

Below Bower are the words, “Stanley Cup Winner 1967”.  The incredible detail doesn’t stop there. The playfield is adorned with a large Maple Leafs logo, with a tag line beneath it reading, “the original six”. This space also contains the photos of multiple players who have worn the blue and white over the years.

The game is fully functional with bumpers and sounds and all the thrills one would expect from a pinball game. There isn’t much more known about the game or who built it, but based on its appearance, it seems like the construction was a labor of love.

It’s unclear where the machine is now, but hopefully it isn’t just collecting dust in someone’s basement. Ideally, this beautiful machine is being enjoyed by different generation of fans who love bouncing balls off Maple Leafs alumni’s faces.

The Jack O’Helmet Inflatable

Some people love the Maple Leafs so much they want to show it even when celebrating something completely unrelated to hockey. That’s why the Jack O’Helmet Inflatable hit the market.

This is an inflatable pumpkin perfect for an outdoor display during Halloween. However, this inflatable has a small twist, it’s wearing a Maple Leafs branded helmet. This product finally gives Halloween enthusiasts an answer as to why jack o’ lanterns are missing so many teeth.

Toronto Maple Leafs Toasters

Breakfast lovers and Leafs fans unite! You can now toast your morning bread with a Maple Leafs toaster that imprints the team’s logo onto each slice. It’s a surefire way to start your day with a burst of team spirit and perhaps a little extra crunch.

This absurd toaster has just one special feature, burning a logo into the user’s bread.

The reviews for the product are mostly positive but there are some who aren’t so pleased with their purchase. One Amazon reviewer wrote, “this toaster is horrible, doesn’t fit a standard slice of white bread and logo is burnt while rest of bread isn’t even toasted. I should have returned this product after the first use but I didn’t have the box!”

Many Different Toronto Maple Leafs Themed Food

There have different edible versions of Maple Leafs products. There are lollipops, Pez candies, chocolate bars, and candy canes. There have also been M&Ms crossover products that were available for purchase by the public.

What appears to be most popular are Leafs baked goods. Many have made their own cakes and cupcakes. Tim Hortons even sold Maple Leafs donuts for a short time.

Toronto Maple Leafs LED Car Light

What we’ve seen so far is a myriad products that no one has ever needed. This final one, while functional, isn’t really practical.

The Maple Leafs are selling a spotlight of their logo that gets displayed each time the car door is opened. Imagine a bat signal for your car, but instead of it signalling for a caped crusader, it demonstrates the car owner’s level of fandom.
