The Toronto Maple Leafs do not have many picks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

In fact, the Toronto Maple Leafs only have three picks in the upcoming draft.  The good news is that one of those is in the first round. The other two are in the 5th and 6th rounds.

The Leafs traded away their first round selection in order to acquire Ryan O’Reilly. However, general manager Kyle Dubas managed to bring back a pick in round one by shipping defenseman Rasmus Sandin to the Washington Capitals. That deal gave the Leafs Erik Gustafsson and the Boston Bruins first round pick in this year’s draft.

This year, there is a very stong cohort of players ready to latch onto an NHL club and begin their professional careers.

Fans will quickly notice that there is a great deal of talent that will be available deep into the first round. Teams have the chance to find the right athletes who will make waves in the NHL in the coming years.

That’s good news for the Leafs who have an opportunity to leave the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville with a future member of their big club.

It’s important to note that the draft order has not yet been established. The lottery to see who will get the first crack at the prospects will take place on May 8. That will give fans a strong sense of who will draft in which slot but it won’t be until a Stanley Cup champion is crowned that the order gets locked in. This mock draft order is based on the mathematical probabilities.
