Toronto Maple Leafs Pierre Engvall and Related NHL News Round-Up
The Toronto Maple Leafs are on pace to best their team record from a year ago, having refused to lose for almost a month.
Should the Toronto Maple Leafs prevail in their game tonight against the Calgary Flames, they will celebrate their one month anniversary of not losing tomorrow.
That is because the last team to beat them in regulation was the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 11th.
In celebration, take a listen to the Official Unofficial Anthem of the Leafs, which is Peaches by the President’s of the United States, for reasons best left unexplained.
Peaches!
Toronto Maple Leafs and NHL News As It Relates to the Leafs
Let’s get the bad news out of the way first: my boy Nicholas Robertson has gone down with a shoulder injury and will be out for six to eight weeks. The NHL is a tough game for small guys who never stop stopping.
We wish him well.
This second item is nuts: Pierre Engvall has been suspended. The underrated Engvall is a litmus test of sorts in my opinion. There are those who see his size and low goal totals and then complain about him.
Then there are people who actually know what they’re talking about.
Engvall is a very, very effective player. You know who agrees with me? His biggest fan and supporter, fashion icon Sheldon Keefe.
Engvall whacked a guy in the head with his stick, and even though it was basically an accident and the guy wasn’t hurt, he has to sit for a game to think about what he’s done.
The Leafs lineup will be missing one of their most valuable players, just don’t tell anyone cause it’s supposed to be a secret. Quick throw on some Blind Melon!
The Toronto Maple Leafs have called up Joey “I’m not angry anymore” Anderson, he’s on a 40 goal, point-per-game pace in the AHL and is (at worst) an NHL replacement player.
He’s got some talent, and could easily win a full-time job in his audition here. It sucks to lose Robertson but the Leafs are ridiculously deep, like John Cusak in a leather jacket.
In other news, some guy on Buffalo scored 5 goals in one game! Way to go Alex Tuch.
(I’m kidding, if you can’t razz the Sabres, why even get out of bed!)
Also, isn’t it crazy how Bobrovsky and Skinner alternate years of being superstars and replacement players, and that they are both doing the opposite again this year of what they did last year?
Also, Sidney Crosby still leads the league in 5v5 points the last time I checked and is also an elite defender. He’s still the best. Like the Gin Blossoms.
