Toronto Maple Leafs prospects continue to dominate in the junior leagues so far in the early goings of this season.
It’s amazing that the Toronto Maple Leafs have so many prospects doing well despite only having one 1st round pick in the last four drafts, and only eight total picks in the last two drafts combine.
The Leafs look to have made some great picks in the lower rounds and with help from their extensive development team, hopefully some of these players will grow into quality NHL players.
Let’s start with the CHL:
Toronto Maple Leafs CHL Prospects
Ty Voit is dominating the OHL right now and breaking away from the competition as the league leader in points with 30 points in 14 games. He’s currently 7 points ahead of the second place player. (stats from eliteprospects.com)
Not too bad for a player taken in the 5th round (153th overall) in 2021. Voit is currently tied for the point lead in the entire CHL playing one less game than Justin Gill who leads the QMJHL.
Voit has more points in less games than WHL leader, Connor Bedard, who is projected to be the NHL’s first overall pick in 2023.
Fraser Minten, who was drafted by the Leafs in the 2nd round (38th overall) in this year’s draft, is also scoring at a higher rate than WHL leader, Connor Bedard. Minten was injured during Leafs training camp, but since returning from injury to the WHL, he has 10 points in 5 games.
Ryan Kressler, a 19 year old prospect who was signed by the Leafs after going undrafted in 2021, has also been on fire since returning from an early injury with 6 goals and 9 points in 5 games. He currently leads the OHL in goals per game.
Brandon Lisowsky is other Toronto Maple Leafs prospect doing well in the CHL with 6 goals and 14 points in 14 WHL games. Lisowsky was drafted in the 7th round (218th overall) in the 2022 NHL draft.
Toronto Maple Leafs NCAA Prospects
Ryan Tverberg currently has 7 goals and 11 points in 9 NCAA games ranking him fourth in goals in the entire NCAA. Tverberg was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 7th round (213th overall) in the 2020 NHL draft.
The ECAC has just started it’s season, but Joe Miller has a goal and 3 points in his first two games which places him second in the conference for points. Miller was drafted by Toronto in the 6th round (180th overall) in 2020.
Matthew Knies, who may be the Leafs most highly touted prospect, currently has 5 goals and 7 points in 8 games which ties him for 12th in NCAA goals so far.
Veeti Miettinen also has 7 points in 8 games. He was drafted by Toronto in the 6th round (168th overall) in the 2020 NHL draft.
