The All-Star break comes at the perfect time for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, faltering under the weight of injuries, have gone 1-2-2 in their last five heading into the break.

With Mitch Marner, Freddie Andersen and Auston Matthews making the team, the All-Star game is a must watch for Leafs fans.

January 23, 2020

Starting on January 23 until January 26, the 2020 NHL Fan Fair will be available in St. Louis. From 3pm-10pm on January 23–24, fans will be able to take pictures with the Stanley Cup, visit the Hockey Hall of Fame, meet the NHL Mascots and many more.

January 24, 2020

To start off the NHL All-Star weekend, rock band O.A.R. will throw a concert at 2:30 p.m. CT as players arrive on the red carpet.

Now, every player in each division will compete in the NHL All-Star Skills Competition (8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m CT), which includes Accuracy Shooting (reigning champ: David Pastrnak), Fastest Skater (reigning champ: Connor McDavid), Hardest Shot (reigning champ: John Carlson), Shooting Stars, and Save Streak (reigning champ: Henrik Lundqvist).

The winner of each event will earn $30,000 (and after the controversy last year, I’m sure the women will too).

The NHL has also decided to highlight some elite women skaters with an Elite Women’s 3-on-3 challenge between Team USA and Team Canada. This is part of a growing effort by the NHL to advertise women in hockey, especially after the folding of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League.

Accuracy Shooting

Eight skaters are selected to hit four targets in the corners of a net the fastest.

Fastest Skater

Eight skaters skate one lap around the rink against a clock, with the fastest winning $30,000.

Hardest Shot

In this event, four skaters attempt to hit a puck into a net while its speed is clocked by a radar.

Shooting Stars

In the newest event of All-Star Weekend, eight NHL players and one member from each women’s Elite team are positioned on a raised platform from which they must shoot pucks at a target from. Each of the players are allowed seven shots and earn points for each target hit.

Save Streak

In this event, all NHL All-Star players will shoot at opposing goaltenders with a minimum of nine scoring attempts.
