The Toronto Maple Leafs seek revenge tonight as they play host to the Calgary Flames. They will also look to build off of Tuesday nights 7-4 victory over the Devils.
The Toronto Maple Leafs play host to the Calgary Flames tonight at 7:00 pm Eastern Standard Time at Scotiabank Arena.
The last time these two teams met was in Calgary during the Western Canadian road trip. The Maple Leafs would probably like to forget that game, and look to get revenge tonight.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming off a strong offensive game against the Devils Tuesday night and look to carry that against this Calgary team tonight.
Flames vs Toronto Maple Leafs
This is the second meeting of two this season between the Calgary Flames and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Both teams are somewhat similar as they both started the season not the way they wanted too, and it ultimately led both teams firing their head coaches. But since then both teams have turned in the right direction and are now in a playoff spot.
The Toronto Maple Leafs enter tonight’s game 25-16-6 (56PTS) recently picking up an important 7-3 win over the Devils a couple nights ago. As the Flames enter with a similar record of 25-18-5 (55PTS) with Calgary coming off a disappointing 2-0 loss to the Canadiens.
It should be a good matchup between two teams that love to score, and with certain players on a hot streak it should be fun watching them out on the ice. (Stats from thescore.com)
Looking for Revenge
We all remember the last time the Toronto Maple Leafs played the Flames right? It was in mid December during the Western Canadian road trip and the Maple Leafs fell asleep for three minutes in the third period. Well you can bet that they will be looking for revenge for that game as they let two points slip away from them.
Other than the Maple Leafs falling asleep for that little stretch of time in the third period in Calgary, they played great in the first 40 minutes, as well as after that little three minute stretch. Although they couldn’t get the comeback complete.
So expect the Toronto Maple Leafs to bring their offensive capability that they are known, especially carrying their offensive power from the last game against the Devils.
Matthews and Marner Look to Stay Hot
Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner… what else do I have to say about these two players. Matthews and Marner have been outstanding in the last 25 games or so as they have been on a lengthy point streak which both players eventually snapped but soon started another one.
Auston Matthews has been on a tear as of late, especially ever since Keefe took over. Through his last 17 games Matthews has (18G 8A 26 PTS) which also seen him have a four game point streak as well as a six game point streak. Also recording his second career hat trick Tuesday night against the Devils putting him at 34 goals on the season and two behind David Pastrnak. It is kind of weird thinking that Matthews has only two career hat tricks and one of them came in his very first NHL game back in October of 2016. (Stats from thescore.com).
Mitch Marner has been on a similar tear as of late too, in his last 17 games he has (9G 19A 28 PTS) putting him at 46 points in just 36 games this season (due to injury) All in all these two have been putting on a show offensively as they keep racking up the points, goes to show that putting Matthews and Marner on the same line actually does work. (Stats from thescore.com)
Due to Mitch Marner’s success as of late he was in the “Last Man in” voting for the 2020 NHL All Star game. I guess the fans love Mitch and appreciate his ability to play hockey because he got voted in and will represent the Toronto Maple Leafs in St. Louis alongside teammates, Auston Matthews and Frederik Andersen.
You can catch tonight’s game at 7:00 pm Eastern Standard Time on TSN4 and Sportsnet West (Calgary region).
