Carolina Hurricanes – December 23rd

Definitely mark this one on your calendar because this one will be emotional.

It’s the return of Jake Gardiner.

Not many fans liked Gardiner because of the bucket-list of the mistakes he made. But, when he was injured for a lot of last year, people missed his presence on the ice.

He’s been a Leaf his whole career (other than being drafted by Anaheim). I know he’s loved every part of it, and I loved every part of his career so far with the Toronto Maple Leafs, even if he did screw up in a couple game sevens.

In his eight seasons with the Leafs, Gardiner tallied 245 points in 551 games as a defenseman. That was usually on the second pairing as well, which is really good.

He’s a great player and I’m sure he is a great teammate. He was a skilled offensive defenseman, who was also great at moving the puck. It was unfortunate that the Leafs couldn’t have signed him, but I’m happy with where he landed.

I do think he’s glad he got to sign with the Hurricanes. He’s mentioned before that it was a lot in Toronto and that in Carolina, he can lay low and have nobody notice him.

He will be back right before Christmas, if you have extra cash or want to bring someone to a game, this is the one. Gardiner will definitely get a nice video tribute, as well as a massive ovation from the crowd.

As he makes the return to Toronto, so will the jerks. And this time, he’s one of them.
