It’s August 11th.  The Toronto Maple Leafs first game is in less than two months.

It’s been 41 days since John Tavares signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs.  That built up a lot of excitement.  It also signaled that the Leafs were done with the slow build and that they were ready to compete.

It’s arguably one of the biggest days in the entire history of the Toronto Maple Leafs.  One of the NHL’s best players, a player who is from Toronto, chose to come home and play.  Consider also that up until it happened, it was considered a far fetched and ridiculous idea.

So where’s my defenseman?

The Leafs clearly can’t go into this season with Ron Hainsey and Nikita Zaitsev playing in their top four, so why not just, you know, make August slightly more exciting and get that trade done now so we have something to keep us entertained?  I mean, it’s not as if I can watch baseball.

Where’s the Press Conference to announce the simultaneous re-signing of Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews and William Nylander to contract extensions?  You just know the guy who gave us John Tavares isn’t going to just sign them one at a time like some normal human.  The only way to possibly top himself is for Dubas to do it all at once.

Also, Where’s Artemi Panerin? With Panerin on board, the Leafs would have to allow other teams to merge together to create some kind of super team in order to compete with them.  I mean, with three of the NHL’s top ten players each on a different line and Mitch Marner, Nazem Kadri and William Nylander as the second best players on their respective lines, things would crazy.

Mr Dubas, we are getting bored.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Recently the Buffalo Sabres spiced up the summer by trading for Jeff Skinner.  That was also the second trade of the summer for the very spicy Carolina Hurricanes.

The Red Wings re-signed Dylan Larkin.  The Coyotes re-signed Mitch Marner’s former linemate, Christian Dvorak.

But other than that, NHL news has been……somewhat slow.

Where is the Erik Karlsson trade?

Has Montreal got a centre yet?  I don’t really care too much about that stuff, though it would be  a nice distraction.  What I want is the Toronto Maple Leafs to fill the end of the summer with a ton of hockey news.

I know it’s August, that its the offseason, that the sun is shining and I shouldn’t care too much about hockey right now.

But………thanks to the internet, there is no offseason. Unless I go on holidays, I’ll be talking Leafs every single day of the year.

So come on Kyle, let’s get a move on.
