The Toronto Maple Leafs and the road ahead.
A lot is going on around the NHL this week and that, of course, includes the Toronto Maple Leafs.
You’ve heard me rant about a number of different topics over the past couple days leading up to the Vegas Golden Knights excitement.
Here, I’m going to a highlight a few below.
- Ilya Kovalchuk
- Some rumors
- Wanting Matt Martin to be protected
- The Leafs own path
- No to the Chicago Blackhawks
- No to Patrick Marleau
- Josh Leivo
- Backing up Martin being protected
Those are just a few of my favorite topics as of late.
However, now that all this excitement is catching up with us, it’s time to take a little look at the schedule.
Jersey Reveal
Some of you don’t really care, but I do.
Adidas Hockey will reveal the new template look for all 31, yes, 31 NHL teams the night of June 20, 2017.
Minor tweaks are expected, but nothing major for the Leafs.
The major work was done back in 2016.

On June 21, 2017, we have the NHL Awards, something that’s never really been too exciting for Leafs fans over the years.
However, now we have two Leafs representatives in the running for a hunk of metal.
One being Auston Matthews for the Calder Trophy and the other being Mike Babcock for the Jack Adams Trophy.
My guess is that Matthews will win the Calder by a landslide and as for Babcock, it’s going to be close.
Sidenote, EA Sports will give us a little taste of what NHL 2018 will look like sometime during the event.
I don’t know about you, but I’d love to see a Leafs themed game next year.
And the last big-ticket event of the night is obviously the reveal of the Golden Knights team.
You know, who they’re going to pluck from the Leafs roster?
Right.
NHL Entry Draft
Possibly the biggest event of the week is the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
There’s a lot of speculation as to whether the Leafs are satisfied with their 17th overall pick, will they trade up, down or give it away?
And of course the most likely possibility of drafting a player at 17.
Who will it be?
Now, there’s also other picks throughout the draft, but if you want theatrics, look no further than the first round which will be held on June 23, 2017.
Free Agency Day
Canada’s favorite joint holiday of NHL Free Agency and Canada Day combined.
I love it.
This is a great day for those fans who like to be on the edge of their seat.
Similar to the NHL Trade Deadline day, but more unpredictable.
It’s like Christmas Day, so enjoy it while it lasts.
This, of course, takes place on July 1, 2017.
Enjoy.
