Scott Laughton
Scott Laughton was brought in at the trade deadline to make a difference. He has been barely noticeable since joining the Leafs, but that could all change come playoff time. His physical style of play is best suited for playoff hockey. Although he's only registered two points in 12 games for the Leafs since the trade deadline, he did have 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points in 60 games with the Philadelphia Flyers before being traded. There is a good chance that Laughton will have a breakout moment with the Leafs, and wouldn't it be great if it came in the playoffs?
Max Pacioretty
Max Pacioretty has only managed to play in 37 games for the Leafs due to injuries. He is currently sidelined with an injury but is expected to be ready to play when the playoffs begin on April 18th. Despite only playing in 37 games, Pacioretty has 105 hits. That physical presence in the playoffs could be a huge factor in helping the Leafs win, not to mention that with the right linemates, Pacioretty could score a crucial goal or two for the Leafs if he can stay healthy.
Defensemen
Jake McCabe
Jake McCabe has been the backbone of the Leafs this season. Although he has 22 points, his 135 blocked shots and 115 hits are more important in showcasing his defense. His physical style of play will be a crucial ingredient in any success the Leafs find in the 2025 playoffs. I expect to see McCabe playing a ton of minutes in the playoffs. Having McCabe shut down the other team's offensive threats is just as important to the Leafs success as goal-scoring is.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Oliver Ekman-Larsson has quietly registered four goals and 25 assists for 29 points in 73 games. He has shown plenty of offense in the past, including nine goals last season. He was a member of the Florida Panthers team that won the Stanley Cup last season. He knows what it takes to reach the top of the mountain. Hopefully, he'll be able to help the Leafs reach the summit. He registered 65 hits in 24 playoff games last season. The Leafs will need him to do the same this year to help make them harder to play against.
