Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan will have another chance to win gold with Team Canada at the World Juniors.

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Noah Chadwick, who participated in Team Canada's Summer Showcase, was left off the selection camp roster. So, Cowan would be the lone prospect to represent Team Canada for the Leafs.

Cowan was named to Team Canada's selection camp roster on Monday morning and was among 32 players selected to compete for a spot on Team Canada's roster for the 2025 World Junior Championship tournament, which begins on Dec. 26 in Ottawa, Ontario.

Team Canada will play two games against a team of U SPORTS all-stars next week (Dec. 12th and 13th) before trimming their roster. After the selection camp, the team will have a four-day training camp in Petawawa, Ontario, plus three pre-tournament games against teams from Sweden, Czechia, and Switzerland.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Easton Cowan 2024-25 season

The 19-year-old Cowan has missed the London Knights last four games with an injury and is listed as day-to-day. He is in the midst of a 54-game point streak, the longest unofficial point streak in the OHL since Doug Gilmour's official streak of 55 consecutive games with a point while on the Cornwall Royals during the 1982-83 season. Gilmour's streak is official because he did it in one season, while Cowan's streak is split between two seasons. Still impressive.

In 18 games with the Knights this season, Cowan has registered 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points. His 54-game point streak with the Knights, which began on November 24th of last season, consists of 37 goals and 54 assists for 91 points. (Stats from eliteprospects.com)

Cowan and Team Canada will be looking for a better outcome than last year's 3-2 quarterfinal loss to Czechia. He had one goal and one assist in five games for Team Canada in the 2024 tournament. Cowan could have more of a leadership role this year as well.

Leafs fans can expect to see Cowan challenged for a spot on the Leafs roster next season, and frankly he would have been on the team this year if they weren't trying to win the Stanley Cup. Until then, he will be looking to help the London Knights in the OHL try to win a championship and help Team Canada win a gold medal. Cowan joins Fraser Minten and Matthew Knies as the future of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
