The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a lot of injuries lately, but they haven't even had the worst luck in the NHL this year, as Colorado's injury troubles have been much worse.
Still, the Toronto Maple Leafs have played games this year with over half their forwards missing from the lineup, and that is pretty ridiculous, even for a game as dangerous as hockey can sometimes be.
The Leafs got Auston Matthews back on Saturday - he had two points - and that's really the only injury they had that really mattered. The rest of the players are helpful, but Matthews is integral to any success they might have.
The Leafs played last night against the Chicago Blackhawks, but this was written ahead of time, so it won't include any injuries that may or may not have occurred last night.
Toronto Maple Leafs Roster Update and Injury Report
Bobby McMann was hurt last week and is on the I.R though he doesn't appear to be out for long. He has six goals on the season, all at 5v5, which is good. He also has an expected goals rating of slightly under 50%, and only a single assist on the season.
Max Domi is also on the I.R, and and like most of the rest of the players on this list, no one knows why. Domi has had a horrendous season and was in the midst of a 13 game pointless streak when he was injured. He also has zero goals on the season and a 47% expected goals rating. His injury is making the Leafs a better team.
Jani Hakanpaa, who should never have been signed, was injured all season long, came back for two games, was terrible, didn't play for a long time, then was moved back to the I.R yesterday. At least he wasn't as expensive as John Klingberg, but maybe stop signing ex Dallas Stars who everyone already knows have career threatening injuries.
Calle Jarkrok recently had surgery and is on the LTIR. He hasn't played all year and likely will miss quite a bit more time.
Ryan Reaves suspension is over after last night, but that doesn't mean he should play, even though he likely will.
David Kampf remains on the I.R, and isn't' expected back until maybe a couple weeks from now. His expensive salary and 4th line role means he is easily replaceable. Frankly, he should already have been moved in the off-season.
Finally, Max Pacioretty remains out with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. He was playing surprisingly well when he went down, but given his age and injury history, anything the Leafs get from him was always going to be a bonus.
