No. 3: David Kampf
Similar to Jarnkrok, Kampf is also currently injured, but he should return sooner than later. However, hopefully when he returns, he's playing for another team.
$2.4M for a fourth-line centre is insane, but for some reason, the Leafs have continued to employ Kampf. He is a good fourth-line centre, as he's defensively responsible and solid at face-offs, but $2.4M is a wild number for those responsibilities.
In the history of the NHL, there are not too many examples of fourth-liners being the difference-maker in Staley Cup victories, so I'd much rather see a player making league-minimum play that role to free up space for an impact player. Also, with Kampf out of the line-up, it's not like the Leafs have suffered. In fact, they've been winning almost every game he's missed.
Fraser Minten has been a welcomed addition to the team as the third-line centre, but in a perfect world, I'd probably rather him slide to 4C and trade for a 3C. If Kampf is still on the roster, the Leafs won't be able to afford to do that, so as a result, the team needs to move his contract ASAP.
If the team is able to move Kampf's and Jarnkrok's contract, that should free up enough space to improve their 3C position, which is one of their biggest needs right now. Let's hope that the team moves on from Kampf sooner than later because he makes way too much money for what he can bring.
