The Toronto Maple Leafs need to make three big trades, to get under the salary cap

No. 1: Calle Jarnkrok

Jarnkrok is currently on the LTIR with a sports hernia, but it doesn't mean that the team shouldn't move on from him already.

I obviously believe that Jarnkrok is dealing with a real injury right no because he had surgery for it recently, and he'd be playing if he could, since he could help this roster, but I always think of Stéphane Robidas in these situations.

Jarnkrok's salary is little more rich than you'd want to pay him, and the Leafs never have issues burying those dollars in the AHL or on LTIR, which is exactly what they did with the famous "Robidas Island" scenario.

However, as mentioned, I'm not speculating that Jarnkrok isn't hurt, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Leafs traded him and he magically started playing with that team who acquired him, very shortly after.

Jarnkrok is a fine forward, but his price-tag is too much. At $2.2M AAV, Jarnkrok ccould and should be replaced by someone who makes half his salary on this roster. On any other team, a $2.2M third-liner is actually a bargain, but on the Leafs, it's too rich.

As a result, the Leafs should explore a trade for Jarnkrok because they're not going to be able to afford him, if, or when, he eventually returns to the line-up.
