Pittsburgh Penguins

Reilly Smith

Reilly Smith is a 32-year-old, 6'1", 185 Lbs right-winger. He has eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 40 games. Smith is averaging 16:14 minutes of ice time this season and has a Corsi for percentage of 52.0%, along with 21 hits and ten blocked shots. He has also registered 26 goals and 53 assists for 79 playoff points in 106 playoff games and helped the Vegas Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup last season.

Smith has one more season after this one left on his contract with a salary cap hit of $5 million. It's a steep price for a player who might finish the season with 40 points. However, I think the Leafs would be adding him strictly for his playoff experience. Treliving could try to get the Penguins to retain some salary as well.

Alex Nedeljkovic

Alex Nedeljkovic is a 28-year-old goaltender with a record of 8-3-3 and one shutout. He has a 2.60 GAA and a .918 SV% through 16 games this season. This is his seventh NHL season, and he has a career record of 50-41-18 in 119 games with the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Nedeljkovic will become a UFA this summer, so if the Leafs acquire him, it will be as a rental. However, it wouldn't be too difficult to add his $1.5 million salary under the Leafs cap.

Marcus Pettersson

Marcus Pettersson is a 27-year-old, 6'3", 177 Lbs left-shooting defenseman. He has two goals and 17 assists for 19 points in 46 games while averaging 22:37 minutes of ice time. He has a Corsi for percentage of 52.2%, 50 hits, and 81 blocked shots.

Pettersson is signed until the end of next season with a salary cap hit of $4.025 million. The Leafs would need to move some salary or ask the Penguins to retain salary for this trade to happen.
