The Toronto Maple Leafs aren't playing in the Stanley Cup Finals.

It just looks like it!

Last night the Edmonton Oilers played an excellent playoff game and deserved to win, only to run into a super-hot goalie who produced a ridiculous result that made sure no one will care about or remember how good the Oilers actually played after the memory of the game starts to fade.

I mean, a dominant offensive performance ruined by a goalie a group of on-ice offials too afraid to call the correct amount of penalties against the team with the sick power-play?

Where have I seen games like this before?

Zach Hyman, Cody Ceci, and Paul Maurice where all there.

The better team lost. The winning team's goalie looked like he just changed his name to Hasek.

Where have I seen this before?

First of all, I don't know what game you watched, but the one I saw was very poorly officiated. There was no way in hell that that game should have ended with Florida getting 4 minutes in power-plays and Edmonton getting 6 minutes.

The NHL's Game Management is an absolute embaraassment to the league and all involved.

The officiating was terrible (I guess this isn't unique to Leafs games, but I thought it was) and the Oilers didn't score on their power-play, which is another Leafs trademark.

But what was worse was that Edmonton even dominated at 5v5 and couldn't buy a goal.

They had 62% XGoals on the night, while getting 60% of the shots and 60% of the puck-possesion. (naturalstattrick.com).

I haven't seen Sergei Bobrovsky play this well before in a game that didn't feature Auston Matthews.

One way I knew for sure this wasn't a Leafs game was that the Oilers coach didn't play their 4th line centre or worst defenseman for minutes at 5v5 than their best player, which was something old Sheldon Keefe used to tryout on occaision.

I used to love looking at the box scores the next day and seeing how the Leafs skated David Kampf or Ilya Lyubushkin skated as much or more than Auston Matthews. I can't believe they fired him. I can't believe it's not butter.

Another reason I thought this was a Leafs Playoff game I accidently tuned into in a bizzaro world was that Zach Hyman didn't score. I thought he only went scoreless when playing for the Leafs?

Jokes aside, the Oilers deserved to win but couldn't score on the power-play, faced horid offiicating and an unbeatable goalie. The Toronto Maple Leafs don't get to play meaningful games, but for one night at least, it sure felt like it.
