The dog days of summer are here, and the free agency signings have slowed. We must now write about players signing AHL deals with the Toronto Marlies instead of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In addition to the free agency signings coming to a screeching halt, the trade market across the league has been quiet. Toronto Maple Leafs activity should ramp up later this month, but for now it's pretty boring!
We have reached the point in the offseason where we should only expect these minor signings of players fighting for jobs when the Leafs training camp opens.
Brad Treliving, now in his second offseason as the Maple Leafs General Manager, has made some exciting and questionable decisions in his first two off seasons, decisions that could significantly shape the team's future.
An interesting thing about Treliving is that he's been the GM for more than a year now and hasn't really made a significant trade.
Sure, he did some minor work at the trade deadline, bringing in Dewar and Edmondson, but he is yet to swing a big trade.
Now that the calendar has flipped to August and we have a solid idea of the Maple Leafs roster, it is a great time to evaluate Brad Treliving's best and worst decisions since becoming the team's General Manager.
