No. 1: James Van Reimsdyk
Over the past decade, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been known to add a veteran or two in the line-up, who's searching for a Stanley Cup at a cheap price. Whether it was Mark Giordano, Joe Thornton or Jason Spezza, the team had multiple players make an impact in the dressing room and the same thing could happen with "JVR."
Van Reimsdyk spent seven seasons in Toronto and was a fantastic player during his tenure. He scored 30 goals twice and was a bright light during a tough time. He found a lot of chemistry with Mitch Marner during his last year with the Leafs and that bond could be enough to take a chance on him with a PTO.
Sure, his game has fallen off in the past few years, but paired beside Tavares and Marner on the second-line or as a veteran presence in front of the net on the third-line beside Nick Robertson and Fraser Minten, JVR could be a welcomed player in the dressing room. Also, although he's not a 30-goal scorer anymore, you could still get 15 goals out of him for league-minimum, at this point in his career.
If JVR wants to win and wants to return to a place where he had success and seemingly enjoyed playing, a reuinon with the Leafs makes a lot of sense.
I know fans would love to see him back in that Jason Spezza type role, so let's hope it happens.
JVR doesn't have a lot left in the tank - he's 35 and he only scored 11 goals last year. However, he isn't done and could offer some depth scoring that is always missing from the Leafs lineup.
