The Toronto Maple Leafs second-best player is on a quest for 100 points and million dollars.

The Toronto Maple Leafs know that Mitch Marner can produce points. He's led the team in points four times during his first eight seasons and is currently leading the Leafs in points after 42 games.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have a lot to be thankful for this season. Their 27-13-2 record (56 points) has them sitting first in the Atlantic Division and fifth overall in the NHL. Marner's production is a big contributor to that success. He has 14 goals and 44 assists for 58 points in 42 games.

Marner is tied for third overall in points with Mikko Rantanen from the Colorado Avalanche and just one point behind Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl for second in the NHL for points. He is on pace for 27 goals and 86 assists for 113 points in 82 games. During his career, Marner has yet to reach 100 points. He has scored at a 100 point pace for the last four seasons, however.

With 20 multi-point games this season, it's no surprise that Marner is sitting where he is in the NHL point standings. If his second half of the season is as productive as his first half, Marner will reach that all-elusive 100 points for the first time in his career.

Will Mitch Marner become a $100 million man?

Marner is in the final year of his six-year $65.41 million deal with a $10.9 salary cap hit. He will be highly sought after on the open market if he hits unrestricted free agency this summer, but he has shared his desire to remain in Toronto, where he was born and raised.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Marner and his expiring contract this season. The overall consensus is he will seek a long-term (7-8 years) deal with an annual average value of around $12 million. Seeing as how the Leafs are the only team that can offer him an eight-year deal, they could offer him a salary of $12.5 million a season over eight years, which would make the overall deal worth $100 million.

100 seems to be the magic number for the one they call "The Magician" as Marner seeks 100 points and possibly $100 million in 2025. Some will argue that $100 over 8 years is too high, but I'm not sure how you let a player who registers 90-100 points a season walk away for nothing in free agency.
