Sam McCue

Sam McCue is a 6'2, 190-pound left wing from Sudbury, Ontario. The 19-year-old was selected by the Leafs after registering 23 goals and 14 assists for 37 points in 68 games split between the Peterborough Petes and Owen Sound Attack last season.

He registered 18 goals and 13 assists for 31 points in 35 games for the Attack this season before getting traded to the Flint Firebirds. The trade has not slowed him down, as he has three goals and two assists for five points in four games. He is on pace for 34 goals and 25 assists for 59 points in 64 games. I have a feeling the Leafs will sign McCue this off-season and have him develop in the AHL with the Marlies next season.

Nathan Mayes

Nathan Mayes is an 18-year-old, left-shooting defenseman who measures in at 6'4, 201 pounds. He is from Salmon Arm, British Columbia, and is known for playing a physical game. The Leafs selected Mayes after he registered one goal and 15 assists for 16 points in 68 games for the Spokane Chiefs last season.

As the last pick in the entire 2024 NHL entry draft, Mayes has a lot to prove. He currently has three goals and 14 assists for 17 points in 32 games, which puts him on pace for five goals and 25 assists for 30 points in 56 games. For now, it seems like a long shot that Mayes will make it to the NHL, but he still has another season of junior hockey next season to help him develop.
