No. 1: Nick Bjugstad
Nick Bjugstad is a beast of a centre, coming off the best season of his career. At 6-foot-6, he reminds me of David Steckel, except with a little more skill.
Currently playing on the Utah Hockey Club, Bjugstad only makes $2.1M and his contract expires this season, so he wouldn't be an expensive option. He's been a consistent third-line centre with the Hockey Club thus far and would fit in well in that role with Toronto.
Bjugstad's consistentcy has always been his issue during his NHL career, but he is coming off a 22 goal season, which is promising. He only has four goals this season, which is way off his marks from last season, but a change of scenery could help spark change.
No. 2: Yanni Gourde
If the Leafs could acquire any third-line centre, Gourde has to be at the top of the list, based of his experience and contract. I know the team mentioned they'd like someone with term, but I'd be happy with Gourde for the remainder of the season at $5.1M.
Not only that, but Seattle would probably be willing to retain some of the contract if the Leafs sweetened the pot and I think he'd be worth it. Gourde played a solid role during the Tampa Bay Lightning's back-to-acbk Stanley Cup championships and he's the exact person you want to bring into a tight dressing room that hasn't won.
When your best players haven't won Stanley Cup's, you need to rely on guy's who have that experience and Gourde can be that player for the Leafs this year. In 83 playoff games, Gourde has 23 goals and 42 points and could be someone who scores at a crucial point when the team needs a big goal.
If the Leafs were to acquire Gourde, I think it would legitimize their chances at a Stanley Cup this year and be an incredible move.
