No. 2: Radko Gudas

If the Leafs were going to add Marchand, why not look to another foe who's tormented the Leafs in the past and acquire Radko Gudas, too?

I've harped on GM Brad Treliving that he needs to trade for an offensive defenseman who can help run the power-play (and we'll get to that), but physicality and size always win in the playoffs, which is exactly what Gudas represents.

When the Leafs faced the Florida Panthers during the 2023 NHL Playoffs, Gudas was a beast. He was physical and drove the team nuts, ultimately helping the Panthers win in five games. He wasn't the only reason why Florida beat Toronto, but he was a big intimidator on the blue-line, which the Leafs clearly lacked in that series.

At $4M AAV, currently playing on a struggling Anaheim Ducks team, Gudas seems like the perfect trade chip for Toronto to bring in. Even if they acquired him, I still think they need one more offensively-minded defenseman to even out the blue-line, but Gudas brings a ton of experience and physicality to help during those tough playoff games.

He'd essentially be a slightly smaller, yet arguably scarier version of Luke Schenn, who was very effective in his second-going with the Leafs. Also, I don't think it would cost a lot to acquire Gudas, especially as he only has one year left on his deal, and the Ducks don't necessarily need him right now, so the Leafs should capitalise on this.
