No more Game 7s
Game 7s have been the Leafs bane. How many times have we seen the Leafs falter in a decisive game? Last season, the Leafs came oh so close to bouncing Boston in the first round. Yet, a bounce here and there, and the Leafs were on the road back home after the first round was done.
This time around, a big wish on the New Year’s list is no more Game 7s. We wish the Leafs could close out series in five or six games. There’s no need to go to a do-or-die games.
Why go through the aggravation when you can eliminate opponents sooner rather than later? Of course, that’s easier said than done.
Nevertheless, the wish is for the Leafs to knock out their opponents before getting to overtime in a Game 7. The hope is the Leafs can get through opponents quickly and have plenty of time to recover for the next series.
Wouldn’t that be something special?
Now, here’s some bit of good news. The Leafs have had one of their best seasons in a long while. They’ve been atop the Atlantic Division all season long. They look like a different team. The Leafs look like they’re a club determined to prove everyone wrong.
So, this could be the year that the Leafs finally break through. I know we’ve heard that so many times before. But it actually feels like things are different this time. The Leafs are winning tight games that they wouldn’t have won before.
2025 could be the year that Leafs Nation gets its wish: A Stanley Cup. Curses have been broken before. So, why not break another one this year?
