The Toronto Maple Leafs were one of four teams that were selected for the 2023 Global Series in Sweden this week.

The Toronto Maple Leafs won three of their last four games before making the journey over the Atlantic but still will look to improve upon many aspects of their game while in Stockholm.

The 2023 NHL Global Series holds special significance as it marks a departure from the usual format, with four teams participating instead of the traditional two.

This change allows for a more extensive showcase of NHL talent in Sweden, a place where the Maple Leafs have a deep-rooted history.

The Toronto Maple Leafs Are Ready to Play Games in Sweden

With notable Swedish players like William Nylander, Calle Jarnkrok and Timothy Liljegren representing the Maple Leafs, it makes sense why they were selected to play in Sweden. Other teams boast their own Swedish stars, making this a unique opportunity for local fans to witness their favourite players in action.

The venue for this exciting series is the renowned Avicii Arena in Stockholm, hosting all four games. This marks the third time the Global Series has been played in Stockholm.

They will face off against the Detroit Red Wings on November 17th. Detroit also has a strong Swedish heritage with players such as Nicklas Lindstrom, Henrick Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom representing the team through three different decades.

This will mark the first time the Red Wings and Maple Leafs face off this season.

Following the game against Detroit, Toronto will take on Minnesota in their second and final game in Stockholm. Facing off against Swedish players Joel Eriksson Ek, Jonas Brodin – who the Leafs could use on the back end – and Filip Gustafsson.

For fans eager to catch the action, the games will be broadcast on TSN and Sportsnet in Canada. Streaming options include TSN+ and Sportsnet+.

Nov. 17: Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings at 2 p.m. on TSN4 or TSN+
