Mikko Kokkonen – Toronto Marlies

The Leafs drafted Mikko Kokkonen in the third round of the 2019 NHL draft with the 84th overall pick. After three seasons playing in Finland, Kokkonen came over to North America last season. He split time between the Toronto Marlies (36 games) and the Newfoundland Growlers (8 games) last season.

He is looking to play a complete season with the Marlies, and if the opportunity knocks, he’ll get some time with the Leafs. There is nothing flashy about the way Kokkonen plays, and that’s a good thing. Kokkonen is a stay-at-home defensive defenseman. He has one assist in four games this season for the Marlies.

Topi Niemela – Toronto Marlies

Topi Niemela was drafted 64th overall in the 2020 NHL draft as a third-round pick of the Leafs. After getting drafted, Niemela played three seasons in Finland before coming to North America near the end of last season. He finished last season with the Toronto Marlies and saw some AHL playoff time.

Niemela has one goal and two assists for three points in four games this season. He is on pace for 54 points in 71 games. Look for Niemela to challenge for a roster with the Leafs next season.

William Villeneuve – Toronto Marlies

The Leafs drafted William Villeneuve in the 4th round of the 2020 NHL draft with the 122nd overall pick. He completed his first AHL season with the Marlies last season with three goals and 22 assists for 25 points in 54 games.

Villeneuve hasn’t registered a point yet this season through three games, but with someone as offensively gifted as him, the points will come eventually.
