Toronto Maple Leafs: Max Domi Deserves a Fair Chance
Domi deserves a fair chance on the top line for the Toronto Maple Leafs. There, I said it. Now before you click away, and spam me on Twitter (@LeafsLoyalist), just hear me out.
Max Domi does deserve a fair shot at playing within the top line for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I mean, why wouldn’t the Leafs want to try him out for a few shifts with the first line? Domi has shown in the past (with the Montreal Canadiens especially) that he is capable of having a big season when playing with those who can give him the support he needs.
With Domi’s unique combination of skills, adaptability, and NHL experience, this makes Domi an interesting choice for the top line of the Toronto Maple Leafs, at least for now. Also, giving Domi first-line minutes would be an essential confidence booster for him after this rather slow start to his season.

Domi is a versatile asset that should not be underestimated. Keep in mind, not only one time, but two times Domi has been a trade deadline day target and acquisition for teams looking for an extra scoring touch or grit.
Additionally, Domi possesses the ability and skill to be a contributor on the first line by providing the energy and tenacity that would surely boost the chemistry and play.
By pairing him with elite goal-scorers like Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, Domi could be a factor and create an offense that elevates the Leafs to the next level. Who knows, maybe some chemistry from the London Knights years is rekindled between Marner and Domi which could lead to them dominating the ice as they did in the OHL.
The season is still early and the way I see it, the Leafs should be experimenting with their lines as much as they can without fear. For the first time in a very (very) long time, the Leafs have so much depth it is hard to deny those an opportunity to play.
So why limit themselves to sticking with the same options or combinations that we have seen year in and year out? Sure, some pairings work better than peanut butter and jelly, but this doesn’t mean Keefe should be scared to shuffle things up and reach for the Nutella jar every once in a while.
Like my mother used to say while handing me a nice plate of steaming, green broccoli, you don’t know if you hate it, until you try it!
