So, Can Matthew Knies Win?

Regardless of if Knies wins or not, one thing is for certain, he is the most highly touted rookie the Toronto Maple Leafs have had since Matthews and Marner in 2016-17.

He has the best chance to win the calder trophy since Matthews that season.

Given the competition, It will be difficult for Knies to win.

Many things have to go right on the team-level in regards to his deployment and line-mates.

Even outside of that, he will have to outplay many players who are set to become some of the biggest stars in the next generation of the NHL.

If I was a betting man, I would put money on Knies not winning. In all likelihood, I doubt Knies will even be a finalist for the Calder Memorial.

However, crazier things have happened and if his playoff numbers are any indication, he could be poised for a big year.

If he can find a regular spot in the top-six, he could be capable of racking up 50 or so points. His play will be crucial for the Leafs success this year and beyond

Having him breakout in a big way in the league will only be a positive development, whether he wins the Calder or not.

All-in-all, it’s most likely that Knies doesn’t win rookie of the year honours.
