Just five times in Toronto Maple Leafs history has a player hit the 100-point mark in a single season, and never have two players done it in the same year.

The Toronto Maple Leafs could see that notation in their history book come to an end if Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews can stay healthy.

Twice before have the Leafs franchise season a player fall one point shy from having two stars reach 100-points in the same season.

The first being in the 1993-94 season when Doug Gilmour recorded 111 points and his winger Dave Andreychuk finished 99-points.   That season the NHL played 84-games which benefited the duo as they each missed just one game.

Can the Toronto Maple Leafs Have Multiple 100-point players?

That last time, two members of the Toronto Maple Leafs came close was just two seasons ago when Matthews became the first player in team history to record 60-goals when he did so in just 73-games and finished with 106-points.

Despite playing in just 72-games, Marner finished with 97-points and had he played an entire season he would have easily eclipsed 100-points.

The Toronto native looked as though he was going to reach triple digits that season as he was just five points shy with as many games left in the season.

After recording just two points in the first four of the final five games and being three points shy going into the final game, coach Sheldon Keefe elected to sit both Marner and Matthews to rest them for the playoffs.

Marner came knocking on the door of 100 last season as he finished with 99-points and has now recorded the second most 90-point seasons in franchise history, doing so three times.

The current record is held by Darryl Sittler with five.

The only two seasons over the last five years that Marner has not been able to eclipse 90-points has been the two pandemic shortened seasons and both times he was on pace to reach the mark in both seasons.
