The Toronto Maple Leafs have been given notice that their neighbour is throwing some massive parties from Nov. 14-16 and again from Nov. 21-23, 2024. That’s when Taylor Swift will performing down the street at the Rogers Centre for her Eras Tour.
Concerts are always coming through Toronto. Different acts attract varying levels of attention but Swift has rocked the city well in advance of even stepping foot in it or picking up a microphone. This level of impact is embarrassing to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
For a long time the Leafs were the biggest attraction in Toronto. Fans would gleefully share amongst each the years in queue that they’ve spent just to have an opportunity at purchasing season tickets. That fervor has died down significantly.
It has taken the announcement that Swift will be performing to remind everyone in the GTA that there still is great exciting entertainment that is highly in-demand. It just isn’t the Leafs. Not only should that embarrass the club, but it should fire them up to find ways to improve the level of enthusiasm for NHL hockey in the city.
Perhaps, a modicum more success would help. Swift has been managing to do something that the Toronto Maple Leafs have not, which is send her fans home happy. She plays her hits, gets innovative, and collaborates with others to ensure that everyone’s time at the arena is a big win. That’s something valuable the Leafs can learn from the pop star.
Will Taylor Swift Curse the Toronto Maple Leafs?
If there is anything that the Maple Leafs know, it’s curses. They have been tied to many over the years. Unfortunately, Swift too is connected to a curse, the “Taylor Swift Curse”.
In 2015, Swift was doing her 1989 tour. It became noticeable that wherever she had performed, sports teams would go on losing streaks immediately following her departure.
With the high level of superstition in Major League Baseball, the Houston Astros decided not to take a chance with being cursed. Instead of having Swift come to Minute Maid Park to perform in October, when the MLB post season is in full swing, they rescheduled her to play in September when losses wouldn’t be as damaging.
Perhaps the Astros should have chosen a date once the World Series was wrapped up because following her concert, the team won just one of their next eight games. They managed just to clinch a wildcard spot and were eliminated from the playoffs by the eventual World Series Champions the Kansas City Royals.
Should the Toronto Maple Leafs be concerned about being cursed in 2024? Absolutely. They don’t have enough recent success to take any chances. If there’s anything that the Leafs could benefit from, it would be some good puck luck.
Hopefully for the Leafs, since the concert is being played at the home of the Blue Jays, curses won’t affect them.
