Overall Thoughts:
Going into the season, it seemed like many had forgotten about Joseph Woll as a prospect.
This is largely in part to the fact that he had a major injury and some setbacks in recovery that had him sidelined from March 2022 until partway through the 2022-2023 season.
That didn’t stop Woll though, as once he recovered, he put up an insanely impressive stretch of hockey with the Marlies before being called up to the Leafs.
Woll ended the season with a 16-4-1 record with the Marlies.
Woll has earned a large look at the NHL level and hopefully at minimum a backup spot. He has battled through adversity to get to where he is today and doesn’t seem to be phased by the pressure of playing in Toronto. He looks like a promising goalie, and needs to be given more starts in the NHL.
Woll gets a high grade here as he highly exceeded his expectations and helped push himself up on the depth chart. While Murray might have been a disappointment, Woll came in and provided some much needed relief.
