Who are the 2 best players in Toronto Maple Leafs history?

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are the two best players to ever wear the blue and white in the Toronto Maple Leafs 100 year history.

We could go over a bunch of fancy stats that prove that to be true but instead lets keep things simple.

They’ve lead the team to their most points in franchise history, including most wins (home & away) and least losses in franchise history, twice.

They are number 1 and 2 fastest Leafs to 500 points.

The Toronto Maple Leafs 2 Best Players In Franchise History

Auston Matthews has locked down most points/goals by a rookie, including his never before done 4 goal game debut. He has the single season record for most goals which we all got to witness in his chase for 60 in 2021-2022

Mitch Marner has already locked in most assists by a rookie as well as the single season record for most points by a winger. Plus he holds the longest point streak in Toronto Maple Leafs history at 23 games and the home point streak at 20 games.

Every year they are breaking some 50 to 70 year old record, but you don’t need any of that. You can see it for yourself on the ice night in and night out.

Superstars like this don’t come around very often. Especially one’s with their kind of chemistry. Watching Auston Matthews spin-o-rama backhand sauce to a one kneed Mitch Marner for the one timer come back goal, or how about a streaking two on one Mitch Marner making the best goalie in the modern era look like he plays beer league with the pad pass over to Auston Matthews for the tap in go ahead goal.

Not good enough for ya? How about Mitch Marner putting the team on the board just 7 seconds into a game, the fastest any leaf has ever done it; or him stealing the puck in front of the Oilers net and deke-ing everyone out of their jocks.

What about Auston getting 50 goals in a 50 game span, including him burning the Stars for the game winning overtime goal. Are you not watching?

You’re entitled to be a disgruntled fan who puts the weight of this franchise’s failures on its two homegrown twenty-something superstars, but while you’re doing that, you’re missing history being written, because no one does it quite like them.

No one in the current NHL and no one in Leafs storied 100 year history.

The biggest complaint levied at Toronto’s two young stars is their lack of “playoff success”, never mind that Mitch is 4th in playoff points per game and Auston is 7th, they’ve literally never missed the playoffs once, and they broke this team’s twenty year second round drought.

What people really mean is they haven’t won a Stanley Cup yet.

Well you ‘ve got some great players in this franchise’s long history. A lot of guys people would argue are in contention for best players to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs of all time like Clark, Gilmour, Sittler, Sundin and a total of zero cups between them.

When Marner and Matthews retire as Leafs their going to be the top guys in almost every offensive category you can think of. Heck by the end of this coming year Matthews will most likely be fourth in all time Leaf goals while Marner will be 5 in all time assists, and sixth in all time points. If “the regular season doesn’t matter” then I’m sorry, you’re not a hockey fan. You’re a Toronto fan, and that’s cool; but for the rest of us who actually enjoy the sport, I’ll take watching Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews in Leaf blue until they’re too old to play, over any other experience in the game.
