New Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving is leading the organization into the most important summer in franchise history and with the NHL Entry Draft right around the corner there are some interesting rumours going around.

Here are some interesting takes:

Auston Matthews
David Pagnotta from the Fourth Period stated on the NHL Network last weekend that both Shane Doan and Brad Treliving met with Auston Matthews last week in Arizona.  He stated there was no real discussions on a new contract, but both sides do want an extension.

Similar to what Editor in Leaf wrote about last week, Mike Johnson stated on NHL Network that Matthews may likely want a three-year deal to cash in on the projections that the salary cap will see a significant rise over the next few years.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Players Can Make a lot of Money in Post Career

Finally, Justin Bourne commented on a potential Matthews discount for the Toronto Maple Leafs, which he stated there is nothing that has led him to believe that the  superstar will go that route.

However, he did mention that with him (Bourne) having a father who played in the NHL he is aware that there is a lot of money that can be made post career if you are in good favour with the fans and the organization.

All that being said, it appears nobody knows what the contract extension will look like.

TJ Brodie
There were some ridiculous talk throughout Twitter about TJ Brodie being a candidate buyout.  The veteran defenseman has one-year left on his four-year deal that has a cap hit of $5 Million.  According to CapFriendly, if the team bought Brodie out, he would not have a cap hit this season, but have a $2.5 Million next season, but why the Leafs would buy-out a player who would be easy to trade remains anyone’s guess.

Matt Murray
After speaking about Brodie on Overdrive, Johnson went on to comment about a potential trade with the San Jose Sharks involving Matt Murray.  He commented about how much cap space the Sharks had and that they would have a lot more if Erik Karlsson is traded while only having one goalie signed (Kaapo Kahkonen).  The Torontop Maple Leafs could work out a deal sending Murray to the Sharks and he believes they would not have to add anything to impactful in the trade; maybe a prospect or mid-level draft pick.

The Toronto Maple Leafs haven’t been making much news lately but it does seem like some things are about to happen.
