NHL News As It Does and (Does Not) Relate to the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Florida Panthers several weeks ago now, and yet the 2022-23 NHL Season continues to drag on.
Weirdly, the NHL season continues after the Toronto Maple Leafs are eliminated, but it’s true.
The Stanley Cup Finals between the Florida Panthers and the Las Vegas Golden Knights is a scheduling nightmare with seemingly 45 days between games, but eventually game four will occur.
It might even be tonight, but it might be six weeks from now. Who knows?
Anyways, time to get on with the NHL News.
NHL News As It Does and (Does Not) Relate to the Toronto Maple Leafs
This is a new segment where I list out the top stories from NHL.com and discuss their relationship to the Leafs.
Patrick Roy wants back in the NHL.
Roy hasn’t been in the NHL since he was fired in 2015, and the Toronto Maple Leafs should not consider him for their potentially open head coaching position. Roy would be entertaining, but he doesn’t seem like a very cool guy.
Vegas and Florida Each See a Path to Victory
I can’t believe neither of the coaches has publicly given up, but I guess here we are.
Severson Gets 8 Year Deal with Columbus
I always wanted the Toronto Maple Leafs to get Severson, but eight years for a 28 year old non-superstar? Yikes.
Doan Hired by Toronto Maple Leafs
As much as I follow the Leafs, even I could not care who their assistant GM is. The Leafs hired Doan? Tune in for the new Law and Order Toronto where Shane Doan is accused of stealing my heart.
Final Begins on ‘Quest for the Cup’
I didn’t click on this one and I’m not going to. The Toronto Maple Leafs quest for the cup ended months ago (I now believe the Finals have been going on since March).
Anthanasiou Signs 2 Year Deal with Chicago
Seems like a lot of a cap hit for not a lot of a player. The Toronto Maple Leafs hopefully will continue to shy away from these kinds of deals under the new regime.
King Clancy Trophy Finalists Announced
Without looking I’ll try to guess who they are: Awesome pop singer Maxi Priest, Canadian Author Robert Munch and ex Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bill Berg.
The good news is this: The NHL News season is about to ramp up and these stories are going to get way juicer sooner than you can say I am the President of the Aki Berg fan club.
