The Toronto Maple Leafs play every Saturday night, traditionally.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers played on Thursday, and therefore should have a game tonight.

But they don’t.

They play tomorrow.  This is most likely just due to other events being hosted in the Panthers arena, but you’d think an NHL team would get priority for their playoff games.  The Panthers are clearly going to make more money on a Saturday than a Sunday, so this just seems dumb.

Then again, we are talking about Florida here, so who knows.  Probably they found out there was something they didn’t understand about Saturday night hockey and banned it.

They did try to ban Leafs fans from buying tickets to their games, afterall.

Toronto Maple Leafs End of Season Awards

Sheldon Keefe isn’t getting a coaching award, and no member of the the Toronto Maple Leafs is going to be up for the Norris, Calder or Hart, but Mitch Marner did get a somewhat surprising nomination for the Selke Trophy, for best defensive forward, earlier this week.

A Leafs player hasn’t won that award since Doug Gilmour back in 1993.

The award will likely go to Patrice Bergeron for sentimental reasons, but it’s still cool Marner was nominated, even if by most metrics he probably didn’t deserve it.

The NHL Awards are mostly just about reputation and Marner plays the PK and scored 99 points (he was ripped off by the official scorer for his 100th point) so he’s a natural pick.

This year’s NHL awards should be pretty anti-climatic since Connor McDavid is 100% guaranteed to win the Hart, Erik Karlsson scored 101 points and it would be the biggest upset in awards history if he didn’t win the Norris, while Linus Ulmark is 599% guaranteed to win the Vezina.

Boston coach Jim Montgomery will easily win the Jack Adams, while Patrice Bergeron will almost certainly get the Selke.

The Calder for rookie of the year will go to Matty Berniers  who will also probably win an award for  oldest looking 20 year old, if such an award exists.
