The Toronto Maple Leafs were down 4-1 with about ten minutes to go when William Nylander took hold of the game.

To the great chagrin of those who wanted to trade him for Nick Ritche (and other somehow worse ideas) It was the Toronto Maple Leafs newest 40 goal scorer who took control of the game and engineered a three-goal comeback by picking up three assists in just over 15 minutes.

Nylander, who you might not realize now has a higher career high than Phil Kessel, was unreal as the Leafs made the greatest comeback anyone under 50 has ever seen.

He set up both Matthews goal and picked up another apple on the winner, which was scored by Alex Kerfoot.

All hail William Nylander.

Toronto Maple Leafs Greatest Game Of All-Time

With apologies to Doug Gilmour and company, no Leafs game has been this exciting or amazing since the team last won the cup in….I forget what year.

The parade has been planned, and you can put those first round ghosts to rest.

The Leafs, should they blow this lead, will have to close down the franchise, fire everyone and move to a different city.  Should that happen, I can’t imagine ever caring about this team again – it would just be too much to take.

But like Princes Black Album or the 1982 Science Fiction Materpiece Blade Runner, this game was perfect.

Only ten minutes left and everyone lamenting a best of three, when suddenly Auston Matthews tips one in.  Then he does it again.  I think they were both deflections anyways, its a bit of.a blur.

Assuming I am remembering correctly, that means the Leafs have.a stranglehold on the series with their best player, and the guy with the best shot in the world not yet scoring on a shot on net.  That’s a good sign.

What about the Karma of Kerfoot, the Kadri replacement scoring the biggest goal this team has seen in 55 years?

And now a moment of reverence for the best broadcast clip, ever.

After having to stomach the nauseating duo of Cuthbert and Simpson talk about how much fun they had this summer at Corey Perry’s BBQ for 2 hours per game, this was a breath of fresh air.  This guy needs to be on Leafs broadcasts.

There just isn’t anything else to say.  What a credit to the game of hockey this team is.  Just an absolute gem of a team, and I’ve been saying it for three or four years.  They are built to win and if ever get a run of extended luck, they’ll do just that.  Hell, they don’t even need to be lucky, just not unlucky.

Tampa is done, I can’t wait to see this team demolish the Bruins or the Panthers.  Don’t care which, they’re going down too.  And to think, the Leafs are doing all this despite a major favouritism of the refs towards Tampa.
