The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Ottawa Senators last night in Ottawa by a score of 3-0.

The Toronto Maple Leafs took the season series 3-1.

Prior to the season, the media was hyped up over the Senators off-season additions and the narrative was that the Leafs were finally going to be caught by their provincial rivals.

Of course, those of us with cognitive abilities laughed hysterically at the hype, and, as it almost always does, time proved us to be correct.

The Leafs not only took three of four games against Ottawa this year, but they are 21 points ahead and counting.  The Leafs are in 4th overall, and in the conversation for “best team in the league,” while Ottawa is 21st and hoping their team gets purchased by a Hollywood Phoney.

Toronto Maple Leafs Take Down Ottawa, Again

Notable last night was that Ilya Samsonov was great on the road.  His home/road splits are kind of hilarious, but not as hilarious as the people making a big deal about something that is almost certainly meaningless and completely random.

In more significant news, Zahorna the Destroyah aka Radim Zahorna, aka Russian Pierre Engvall, scored a goal in his six minutes of ice time in his first game with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

These games don’t really matter so that is why he’s playing, I would not expect to see him in the playoffs. (stats naturalstattrick.com).

Luke Schenn was once again horrible, as he was on the ice for nine shot attempts for the Leafs and 19 for Ottawa.  This horribly slow AHL player consistently gets stuck in his own end. He makes the team much worse and should not dress in the playoffs, though he probably will.

Also important: William Nylander scored a goal after going pointless for three straight games.  Funny how before he erroneously criticized them publicly, Nylander and Liljegren were two of the Leafs best players, and both have struggled since.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight in their 94th back-to-back situation of the season.  After today there will just be six games left before the playoffs, which are now guaranteed to be against Tampa.

The Leafs will go with Matt Murray, and then they will face Columbus on Tuesday, Boston on Thursday and Montreal on Saturday.  If they were to win every game they had left, they’d still finish one point behind last year’s team record.

However, their current points-percentage is the 4th best in franchise history.
