Saturday morning David Alter reported through his Twitter account that the Toronto Maple Leafs had recalled Bobby McMann and Joseph Woll.

The tweet brought much consternation to any Toronto Maple Leafs fans who got up early this morning, and were now left to wonder who was injured.

Matt Murray is currently scheduled to start the game against the Senators.

Murray was supposed to start both previous games this season against his former club, but each time he was a late scratch.

The jokes write themselves.

Fortunately, for Murray, he’s OK.

It has since been reported that Ilya Samsonov’s wife is having a baby, and that he will stay in Toronto while the team goes to Ottawa, and that Joseph Woll will back up Matt Murray tonight.

Toronto Maple Leafs Also Recall Bobby McMann and Joseph Woll

Joseph Woll is coming off a loss on Friday night for the Toronto Marlies against the Charlotte Checkers where he surrendered five goals on 32 shots in a game that the Marlies were completely outplayed and collected just 13 shots.

Despite the five goals, Woll still has a 2.37 GAA and .928 save percentage for the Toronto Maple Leafs affiliate and posts a 16-2-0 record on the season.  He has also made three starts for the NHL club this season and has allowed just two goals in his last two contests stopping 54 of his last 56 shots.

McMann has also been recalled from the Marlies and he currently leads his AHL team with 21 goals despite missing half of the games between an injury and being recalled to the Maple Leafs for a part of the season.

Recently, McMann scored 20 goals in 20 games. If anyone ever deserved a call-up, it’s this guy.

McMann has suited up for eight games for the parent club and is still looking to collect his first NHL point after he had a goal called back earlier this season.

McMann could find himself in the line-up as Noel Acciari is not travelling with the team after being knocked out with a head injury in the first period of Friday night’s game.  At the time of writing, the starting line-ups for the Maple Leafs have not been announced for their game in Ottawa.

Regardless of injury, it makes sense for the Leafs – who between Aston-Reese, Acciari, Lafferty, and Kampf do not have much scoring at the bottom of their lineup – to give a shot to a guy who can put the puck in the net.

Based on their AHL dominance, Joseph Woll and Bobby McMann are both NHL players, and yet another example of just how deep this Toronto Maple Leafs team is.
