After arguably their most embarrassing effort of the season on Wednesday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs will travel the QE2 from Edmonton to Calgary for a game against the Flames on Thursday night.

The two teams will square off for the second and final time of the 2022-23 season after the Maple Leafs were able to squeak out a 5-4 overtime win back in early December.  During the first contest, William Nylander had a career night as he registered a five-point game that included three power play points.

The Leafs are in the midst of a five-game trip where the game against the Flames will be the third on the trip, while also being the second contest of three games in four-night stretch.  The current trip saw one of the most dominating efforts on Sunday night against the Seattle Kraken where they won 5-1, however, followed that up with their most lackluster effort in Edmonton where they were taken down 5-2.

Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to bounce back against Calgary Flames

There is not much sense in getting into the loss against the Edmonton Oilers as it is a game you throw in the trash and forget about it.  On the bright side, the club will have both Luke Schenn and Erik Gustafsson with the club in Calgary, however, it is unclear whether either player will be in the line-up or not.

Mitch Marner will look to keep his hot streak going as he has collected 34 points in 24 games since the calendar turned to 2023 and has 16 points in his last nine games.  David Alter reported Wednesday night that Joseph Woll will get the start in Calgary.

This will be the young goalie’s third start with the club this year and he last started on February 18 where he turned away 29 of 30 shots against the Montreal Canadiens.  The 2023 AHL All-Star was impressive with the Toronto Marlies after coming off an injury early in the season and posted a 14-1-0 record with a .931 Save Percentage in 15 starts.

Toronto will want to get back in the win column Thursday, while the game is a near must-win for the Calgary Flames.
