The Toronto Maple Leafs were supposedly getting Jackob Chychrun last weekend.

The Coyotes superstar defender followed several members of the Toronto Maple Leafs on one of the social medias, and things went a little nuts.

It turned out – shockingly!!! – to be false.

Chychrun remained with the Coyotes all week.

But last night he was held out of the Arizona Coyotes game against the St. Louis Blues (which was an insane game, check the highlights on that one) for trade reasons.

But as of right now, no trade.

Maintaining Hope Its the Toronto Maple Leafs

The Hockey Night in Canada Intermission was all all about this on last night’s broadcast, but they had no answers.

The Leafs, Oilers and Bruins supposedly denied being the team  in question.

So did LA, but it was Dustin Brown night and no one seemed to believe them.

However, maybe they scratched him because they are close with several teams and no its only a matter of time.  Maybe the GM had a physic premonition of an injury, had he played.

We just don’t know.

What we do know is that unless the trade was done, the Toronto Maple Leafs would deny involvement.  They are the tightest ship in the league.

However, it really seems like he’s going to LA.

This would not be a disaster for the Leafs, but it would potentially be the start of one.  With Chychrun off the market, there is no way to really upgrade their defense, short of Erik Karlsson.

Sure, Jake McCabe or Valdislav Gavrikov would help a little, but when you take whatever very good player the Leafs already have out of their current lineup, those additions wouldn’t help as much as you might think.

The Leafs are missing the obvious #1 superstar defender.  But no team has a better 3rd pairing then they already have, so upgrading the blue-line is difficult.

Chychrun and Karlsson instantly become the best player on the blue-line, while no one else rumored to be available can say that.

Because of this, the Toronto Maple Leafs might focus their attentions on a forward. In truth, it might be the bigger need.

Timo Meier is still on the market, and if Chychrun is gone, he’s easily the biggest piece available. He might be anyways.  However, with Chychrun, Horvat and Tarasenko already off the board, the amount of available high-impact players is shrinking fast.

Next. Dylan Larkin a Good Timo Meier Fallback Option. dark

The Toronto Maple Leafs need to act now.
