Toronto Maple Leafs Look to Make It 2 In a Row vs Flyers
The 24-9-7 Toronto Maple Leafs will take on the 15-17-7 Philadelphia Flyers tonight in Philadelphia.
The Toronto Maple Leafs played last night, and Ilya Samsonov put on a very good performance against the Detroit Red Wings for the victory.
The Leafs will be going with Matt Murray tonight.
The Flyers have not played since Thursday, a
nd will be well rested. They beat the Coyotes on Thursday and the Ducks last Monday, and have won four in a row overall (although against three of the worst teams in the NHL).
The Leafs beat them in December 4-3, and the beat them in November too. They will be looking for three in a row against the Flyers tonight.
The Flyers are terrible, and deserve to be for giving John Tortorella yet another job in the NHL. There must be something to reccomend that guy as a coach, but I don’t know what it is. Recently he scratched the Flyers best player, ostensibly because he (the coach) wasn’t getting enough attention.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Flyers
The Leafs played last night, and they will have to travel before playing tonight, meanwhile the Flyers are rested.
That should help them a bit, but the Leafs are a much better team. The Flyers have the wrong coach for tanking, and yet they rank 26th overall, so they shouldn’t be very interested in winning when every time they do, they will lessen their chances of getting Connor Bedard.
The Leafs have had a bit of a rough go lately results-wise, but have actually played some of their best hockey of the year. That is what happens when you win nearly 80% of the available points for nearly two months.
For instance, they shouldn’t have lost to either Seattle, St. Louis or Arizona, based on how they played, but they did. Sure, they win some they should lose (no other way to go two months without losing) but when you look at Boston, the only conclusion you can make is that the Leafs are getting unlucky.
Boston will hit a slump, that is guaranteed. Auston Matthews (somehow only drawing six penalites all year so far) is eventually going to start racking up a whole bunch of multi-goal games.
Expected a headline like this in a month or two: “Matthews scores his 25th goal in the last 11 games” or something equally crazy.
His individual shooting percentage at 5v5 is down 5% from his career norm. The Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans will enjoy the second half regression to the norm very much.
