According to rumour, the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in the NHL’s worst player.

The rumour says the Toronto Maple Leafs “kicked the tires” on Tyler Myers, but I don’t really believe it.

What I believe is that the Leafs were just curious how Vancouver valued Myers, and called them up for a prank.

The rumour comes from the Ottawa Sun, and Bruce Garrioch.

Tyler Myers is the worst player on one of the worst teams in the NHL.

He is big.

That is why he is in the NHL.

Based on just hockey skills, he might also be the worst player in the AHL, where he would have trouble making the Toronto Marlies.

The Toronto Maple Leafs Rumours Have Gone Nuts

As far as rumours go, I put this one at about one one-millionth of a percentage of actually happening.

If the Leafs trade for Tyler Myers, Kyle Dubas should resign.

Then Mark Hunter should immediately be given the job, unless Dave Nonis is available and wants it.  Once Hunter is in charge, he should trade Auston Matthews, sell the rest of the sweater to advertising vultures, and  offload William Nylander for Mason Marchment.

I will then transfer my fandom to a real team, like the Arizona Coyotes.

Of course, this baghead fever dream is never going to happen.  The Toronto Maple Leafs have about as much interest in Tyler Myers as Mike Babcock has in going over to Mitch Marner’s house in the offseason to play hacky-sack and compare bucket hats.

It has been six years since Tyler Myers posted an end of the season Expected Goals rating above 50%, and that was just for 11 games!

He has never played a full, or even partially full season where his numbers were good.

If you want a slow player who constantly allows the other team to get more shots, scoring chances and goals then Myers is your man.

According to the Jfresh Player Cards, Tyler Myers is better than just 6% of other NHL defenseman.

This is a player who doesn’t score.

He has 1 goal in his last 96 games.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs trade for this player, it will signal a complete capitulation of their philosophy and signal the end of the Kyle Dubas Era.

If anything, the Leafs need to reverse from the course they’ve been over the last couple year where they’ve tried to augment the offense with a more traditional approach.  They need to go all in on speed and skill.

If the Leafs aren’t going to win, and this is in fact Kyle Dubas last year at the helm (which I very much doubt) then he shouldn’t go out playing other people’s game.  He should go out on his own terms, with his own guys.

Tyler Myers?  Are you kidding me? The most embarrassing move this franchise could possibly make is to trade for that guy.  It would be an abject humiliation.

But let’s be real here. It is not happening.  It is not even on the radar of things that might happen.  Tyler Myers with 50% retained would still cost you three million, which is an overpay by about $2.99 million.

Next. Trade Options. dark

Who wants Connor Bedard the most? Cause that is who should trade for Tyler Myers.  Which, come to think of it, should make him Vancouver’s only untouchable player.
