Toronto Maple Leafs Prospect Tournament Roster Set

The Toronto Maple Leafs prospects will participate in the annual Traverse City prospects tournament this weekend. Toronto’s roster will have 16 forwards, eight defensemen, and three goaltenders.

The tournament will begin on Thursday, September 15th, and feature five NHL teams. Prospects from the Toronto Maple Leafs will play against prospects from The Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, and St. Louis Blues.

Toronto’s schedule for the tournament will see them play the Stars on Thursday, the Blues on Friday, Blue Jackets on Sunday, and the Red Wings on Monday. Some prospects from this tournament will also be attending the Maple Leafs main training camp. For them, this is a bit of a head start to showcase themselves.

September 21st will be the first day of training camp for the Toronto Maple Leafs, with September 22nd being the first day of on-ice workouts. A few prospects attending this tournament and Toronto’s main camp are Nick Robertson, Alex Steeves, and Nick Abruzzese, among others.

Toronto Maple Leafs Prospects Tournament Roster

Toronto’s roster is a mix of guys with NHL and AHL experience, newly drafted players, and some junior hockey invitees. Here is a look at all players taking part in the tournament.

Goaltenders

Toronto will have three goaltenders in this tournament. Two are from within the Maple Leafs organization, and one is an invitee from the OHL.

Luke Cavallin

Luke Cavallin got signed by the Toronto Marlies on June 6th, 2022. His contract is a two-year AHL deal. The 21-year-old is a British-born Canadian born in Swindon, England. Although his contract is an AHL deal, Cavallin will likely start the season in the ECHL with the Newfoundland Growlers.

Last season, Cavallin posted a record of 36-14-4 for the Flint Firebirds of the OHL. He finished the season with a .910 SV% and a 3.16 GAA with two shutouts. During the playoffs, Cavallin posted a record of 11-7-1 with a .929 SV% and a 2.70 GAA in 19 games.

Keith Petruzzelli

Keith Petruzzelli is entering his second season in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. He split time between the Marlies and Growlers last season. For the Growlers, Petruzzelli posted a record of 16-6-1 with a .927 GAA and a 2.01 GAA in 23 games. For the Marlies, he posted a record of 3-1-0 with a .902 SV% and a 3.12 GAA in five appearances.

During the playoffs for the Growlers, Petruzzelli went 9-7-2 in 19 games with a .895 SV% and a 3.04 GAA. He will start the 2022-23 season with the Growlers.

Marco Costantini

Marco Costantini is an invitee from the OHL. He is not under contract but could use this tournament to impress Toronto or another NHL team. The 20-year-old is from Hamilton, Ontario, and spent two of his last three seasons playing for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the OHL.

Costantini posted a record of 31-9-4 with six shutouts in 45 games last season. He finished the 2021-22 regular season with a .917 SV% and a 2.32 GAA. During the 2022 OHL playoffs, he helped the bulldogs win the Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions and advance to the Memorial Cup.

The Bulldogs lost the Memorial Cup to the Saint John Sea Dogs. Constantini finished the playoffs with a record of 16-2-1 and a .913 SV% with a 2.29 GAA.

Defenders

The Toronto Maple Leafs will have eight defensemen in the prospects tournament. Fans will recognize a few of them, but there are some fresh faces.

William Villeneuve

William Villeneuve got selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 4th round of the 2020 NHL draft. The 20-year-old right-shooting defenseman is 6’2, 181 Lbs. Last season he registered eight goals and 48 assists for 56 points in 64 games for the Saint John Sea Dogs. He hopes to have a good tournament and earn a spot on the Toronto Marlies.

Mikko Kokkonen

Mikko Kokkonen was drafted by Toronto in the 3rd round of the 2019 NHL draft. The 21-year-old left-shooting defenseman from Finland is 5’11 and 194 Lbs. He registered one goal and 14 assists for 15 points in 58 games for the Pelicans in Liiga.

Axel Rindell

Axel Rindell got selected by the Maple Leafs in the 6th round of the 2020 NHL draft. He is a right-shooting defenseman from Finland and is 6’0 and 176 Lbs. Last season he registered five assists in 16 games for Jukurit in Liiga and one goal and 11 assists for 12 points in 26 games with Karpat in Liiga.

Filip Kral

Filip Kral got selected by the Maple Leafs in the 5th round of the 2018 NHL draft. The 22-year-old left-shooting defenseman from Czechia is 6’2 and 194 Lbs. Last season he registered three goals and 18 assists for 21 points in 58 games for the Toronto Marlies. He is looking to improve on last season.

Tommy Miller

Tommy Miller got signed by the Toronto Marlies on March 21st, 2022, to a one-year AHL contract. Miller is a right-shooting defenseman from the USA and is 6’2 and 194 Lbs. Last season he registered one goal and eight assists for nine points in 39 games for Northeastern University of the NCAA.

Marshall Rifai

Marshall Rifai got signed by the Marlies on March 29th, 2022, to a one-year AHL contract. He is a left-shooting defenseman from Quebec, Canada, and is 6’1 and 190 Lbs. He recorded five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 35 games at Harvard University last season.

Kasper Larsen

Kasper Larsen is an invitee to the tournament. He is a left-shooting defenseman from Denmark and is 6’6 and 231 Lbs. Last season he recorded eight goals and 35 assists for 43 points in 57 games for the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL.

Noah Van Vliet

Noah Van Vliet is an invitee to the tournament. He is a left-shooting defenseman from Toronto, Canada, and is 6’2 and 205 Lbs. Van Vliet recorded two assists in 11 games for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the OHL last season.

Forwards

The Toronto Maple Leafs will have 16 forwards taking part in the tournament. Plenty of them have AHL experience, and few have NHL experience.

Nick Robertson

Nick Robertson is looking to earn a spot on the Toronto Maple Leafs roster this season. The 21-year-old left-winger recorded 16 goals and 12 assists for 28 points in 28 games with the Marlies last season.

Alex Steeves

Alex Steeves is another prospect looking to try and earn a spot on the Maple Leafs roster this season. The 22-year-old recorded 23 goals and 23 assists for 46 points in 58 games last season for the Marlies.

Nick Abruzzese

Nick Abruzzese got drafted by Toronto in the 4th round of the 2019 NHL draft. The 23-year-old center recorded nine goals and 24 assists for 33 points in 28 games for Havard University last season. He also scored one goal in nine games for the Maple Leafs.

Pavel Gogolev

Pavel Gogolev is entering his third season within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. The 22-year-old left-winger recorded three goals and five assists for eight points in 31 games for the Marlies last season. He also recorded nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points in 14 games for the Growlers.

Pontus Holmberg

Pontus Holmberg got drafted by Toronto in the 6th round of the 2018 NHL draft. The 23-year-old recorded 11 goals and 30 assists for 41 points in 46 games for Vaxjo Lakers HC in the SHL. He also recorded two goals and two assists for four points in six games with the Marlies.

Curtis Douglas

Curtis Douglas is a 6’9 235 Lbs 22-year-old. He recorded 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points in 67 games last season for the Marlies. The big man will be looking to improve on last season.

Semyon Der-Arguchintsev

Semyon Der-Arguchintsev got drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 3rd round of the 2018 NHL draft. The 21-year-old recorded 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points in 51 games for the Marlies last season.

Max Ellis

Max Ellis is a 22-year-old right-winger from Plymouth, Michigan, USA. He recorded 16 goals and 12 assists for 28 points in 39 games for the University of Notre Dome last season. Ellis played two games for the Marlies last season and recorded zero points. He’s looking to have a good AHL season with the Marlies this year.

Ty Voit

Ty Voit got drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 5th round of the 2021 NHL draft. The 19-year-old recorded 26 goals and 54 assists for 80 points in 67 games for the Sarnia Sting in the OHL last season.

Fraser Minten

Fraser Minten got drafted by Toronto in the 2nd round of the 2022 NHL draft. The 18-year-old finished the 2021-22 season with 20 goals and 35 assists for 55 points in 67 games for the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL. Minten will be going back to the WHL this season, but this tournament is a good chance for him to showcase himself.

Brandon Lisowsky

Brandon Lisowsky got drafted by the Maple Leafs in the 7th round of the 2022 NHL draft. The 18-year-old recorded 33 goals and 25 assists for 58 points in 68 games for the Saskatoon Blades in the WHL last season. Like Minten, Lisowsky will return to the WHL this season.

Graham Slaggert

Graham Slaggert got signed by the Toronto Marlies on March 31st, 2022. The 23-year-old recorded 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points in 39 games for the University of Notre Dome last season. Slaggert will play with the Marlies this season.

Braeden Kressler

Braeden Kressler got signed to a three-year ELC by the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 1st, 2021. The 19-year-old recorded five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 28 games last season for the Flint Firebirds in the OHL.

Pano Fimis

Pano Fimis is an invitee to the tournament by Toronto. The 18-year-old recorded 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points in 54 games with the Niagra Ice Dogs of the OHL last season. Depending on how he does during the tournament, Fimis could earn himself an NHL contract.

Avery Hayes

Avery Hayes is another invitee to the tournament for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 19-year-old recorded 41 goals and 38 assists for 79 points in 66 games for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the OHL last season. A good showing in the tournament could earn him an NHL contract.

Sean McGurn

Sean McGurn is another Toronto invitee for the tournament. The 20-year-old recorded 20 goals and 53 assists for 73 points in 66 games last season for the London Knights of the OHL.
