The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a pretty unremarkable offseason.

The Toronto Maple Leafs finished fourth overall and played an excellent series (despite the result) against Tampa before losing in the first round of the NHL Playoffs.

Because their team is obviously among the NHL’s best, they didn’t have to do much this summer other than tinker at the margins everywhere but in net.

The main thing they did change was their goalies, but given the impossibility of predicting any goalie’s future performance, the Leafs correctly replaced Campbell on the cheap, with an eye to maintaining flexibility in order to be able to act should one of the world’s few bankable goalies become available.

It will be fascinating to see how it all plays out, but for now, let us partake in an annual summer tradition of updating the Toronto Maple Leafs all-time points list.

Previously this summer we covered the all-time goals list, and the all-time assists list.  The stats in this case come from quanthockey.com.

The Toronto Maple Leafs All-Time Scoring Leaders

The all-time leader in points by a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs is Mats Sundin with 987.  This record is safe until Matthews and Marner sign extensions, upon which it becomes just a matter of time until they are first and second on the list.

With a career high 106 points last year, Matthews rocketed all the way from 30th to 15th.  He currently has 457 points in 407 games, and is the highest ranking active player on the list.  Another 100 points season in 2022-23 will put Matthews inside the top ten.

He currently needs one point to tie Tim Horton, and two points to tie Lanny McDonald. If he has an absolutely insane season of 141 points, he will pass Frank Mahovlich for 6th all-time.   He still needs 531 points to pass Mats Sundin.

The highest active player who is no longer on the Leafs is Phil Kessel who had 394 points with the Leafs and now ranks 22nd.

The next highest active Leafs player is Mitch Marner, who has two less points than Matthews in 20 fewer career games.  Every example I gave for Matthews applies equally to Marner, who needs 143 points to pass Mahovlich.

Morgan Rielly is 24th and continues to climb the charts. Passing Ian Turnbull and cracking the top 20 is likely this upcoming season.

William Nylander, ranked 32nd, will move into 20th place if he scores 82 points in 2022-23.

As for John Tavaers, he cracked the top 50 this past season and is now the 47th highest scoring member of the Toronto Maple Leafs in history.  He could possibly squeak into the top 30 by next summer.

Next up is Alex Kerfoot, who is one of 147 people to ever live and score over 100 points on the Leafs.  Kerfoot ranks 141st. 55 points will tie him with Gary Roberts at 101st.

Alex Kerfoot. Who knew?
