The NHL Trade Deadline is upon us and the Toronto Maple Leafs are still likely to make a move or two.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have added Ilya Lyubushkin and Mark Giordano so far, but the current winner of the deadline is the Florida Panthers who are the only team to have added a high-impact player in Claude Giroux.

As the deadline approaches, the Leafs will get clarity on their waiver situation (Kyle Clifford , Petr Mrazek).

There is also injury news: Rasmus Sandin may be out long-term with a knee injury, and Ondrej Kase likely has a concussion after being hit in the head Saturday.

Toronto Maple Leafs and the NHL Trade Deadline

Updated: The Leafs don’t do anything today, after making all their moves yesterday.  More to come.

Updated: The Leafs lose out on Harri Sateri, while Petr Mrazek clears waivers.

The Leafs were able to add Mark Giordano without touching any of their best assets, and they could still clear a ton of cap space if they move out Justin Holl or Alex Kerfoot, so pretty much anything is still a possibility, though of course we’ll update as news comes out.

Giordano is a good pick up, but it reminds me a lot of the Nick Foligno trade.  It’s not something I was hoping they would do, and I don’t think it has the impact that adding such a name-brand player usually does, but it’s still a smart bit of business.

In my opinion, the Toronto Maple Leafs should be looking to match what the Panthers did when they landed Giroux – which means bringing in a star player.

The rumours out here right now don’t indicate they’ll do that, but it will be interesting to see what happens.

A lot of people are talking about Andrew Copp from the Jets, and I think he’d be an OK addition in the vein of Ilya Mikheyev, but he isn’t a an elite player.

One minor move the Leafs made was to send defenseman Alex Biega to the Predators for future considerations.  This is not the big sexy move we were hoping for, but it is something. I guess.
